Wow.  The designers turned a simple, totally intuitive process into a complicated, multi step and difficult to discover process.

Maybe that simple, intuitive process doesn't work so well on the web and mobile?

It's also neat that while I can seamlessly edit and work on older versions of Excel, I get the privilege of being forced to upgrade my older Numbers documents to a newer version which is not backwards compatible so everyone I work with is privileged to be forced into the same process.

After an upgrade you can still use Numbers 2.3 if you like. It's in the iWork '09 subfolder in Applications. If you need to do a lot of highly formatted paper printing with footers and so forth then you'll probably be happier with Excel or the old Numbers.  If you want cross-platform sync, better AppleScript support and interface improvements in other areas, then maybe Numbers 3 isn't all that bad.

Hi, folks! I sent Apple a feedback on this issue today:

Hi there, as a experienced user of Numbers and before that Appleworks from 1.1 on I still can not use the new version of Numbers. I now use 2.3 and use this app for making invoices. Lukily, I have a lot of them, made in all versions of Numbers. But importing them in Numbers 3 and newer, my page header is invisible in the spreadsheet. I saw and read in the discussions that the imported header is now to be seen as you do the print command, and then also can change the content of the header (https://discussions.apple.com/message/25419324#25419324) Why is it that the imported header is not shown in the spreadsheet itself? I still am using 2.3 untill this issue has been solved. There are may threads about this major item in the discussions...

I hope Apple takes his responsablity about this, otherwise I have to syat using Numbers 2.3
