Aug 1, 2014 10:11 PM in response to bbailey0by stevejobsfan0123,Take it to the Genius Bar to have it checked out: http://apple.com/retail/geniusbar. Too bad about the warranty expiring 3 days ago . No promises, but if the Genius you work with is nice, they may cut you a break.

Aug 1, 2014 10:18 PM in response to bbailey0by clintonfrombirmingham,You likely have the problem that many of us 15" and 17" 2011 models are having: a faulty soldering GPU and as discussed here -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0. It usually, but not always, beings with screen glitches and then gets to the point where the machine will simply not boot.
It's ashamed that you're not longer under AppleCare which would have, at least, got you a new logic board. A new logic board, however, doesn't usually fix the situation - only a BGA Reballing of the GPU seems to have long-lasting fixes.
Read through a few the articles (not all of them!) and make the decision yourself - and then make the decision about whom your going to contact.
Good luck,
Clinton

Aug 3, 2014 9:31 PM in response to bbailey0by bbailey0,UPDATE**
I took my Macbook Pro to the local Apple Store, and they told me that along with my hard drive being fried, my logicboard had given out as well. They shipped it offsite to get repaired, and I was told that they were pretty much going to have to gut the computer. MagSafe lights and battery indicator lights still worked, but the logicboard failure was causing the black screen, and the hard drive failed for an unknown, possibly related, reason.
Genius Bar tech that I worked with was AMAZING and got all of the repair costs covered, and it won't cost me a dime.

Oct 1, 2016 1:56 PM in response to bbailey0by MatthewAH3,Sorry to bring up an old thread. But my macbook pro, early 2011, is doing the exact same thing. I have tried everything but nothing has worked.
But....the other day, my wife got mad at me and threw my macbook on the carpeted floor and landed on the back, and then it started working again! I couldn't believe it.
But after a day, it stopped working again and is doing the same thing. Anyone have any ideas? I have an appt at the genius bar next week but trying to figure it out myself because I know my applecare is expired.
I have always taken great care of my macbook pro, so for it to just stop working one day, is very very strange.
