Q: Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2 Won't wifi sync iPhone

Thank you! This worked a treat for me: IPv6 was off, so I set it to Automatic and within seconds my iPhone 5S appeared in iTunes for the 1st time in months without being connected to the USB port.. I didn't even need to reboot anything!

Yes this solved on it on my new iMac w/Mavericks as well.  I'll see if it's still works after the iMac sleeps.

That is not entirely correct I am on 10.9.4 and ios 8 Beta 3 and USB syncing right now I haven't had any Wifi Sync issues until 10.9.4. If I initial the sync from the iPhone it fails to find my Mac even though both are on the same network. If I initiate a sync via iTunes it works but takes about 20min to get going.

iCloud won't sync your music back if you don't pay for iTunes Match so not sure why any tech would tell you that.  I thing you got a tech who was just trying to get off the phone so he/she could go home.

Yes it is not entirely correct.

The post you responded to (echelon3 on 23 Oct 2013), Mavericks removed local syncing of contact & calendars. It was only possible thru iCloud.

Syncing music, movies, etc. is not possible thru iCloud. As you mentioned, you can sync music thru iTunes Match.

You know what... and this might sound a little strange...but I was trying anything and everything... and decide in preferences under 'Devices' to CHECK - "PREVENT iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically"... and as this is against all reason I thought it wouldn't work....BUT IT DID! Restarted everything and VOILA! instant wifi sync of my iPad 2. Thats just simply crazy....

Thanks  Mik for providing the link to http://tinyurl.com/ld7kh6m  (iTunes 10.5 and later: Troubleshooting iTunes Wi-Fi syncing).  After a frustrating day of trying a variety of unsuccessful remedies, the article gave a simple (and what is now obvious) solution: reboot the devices.  Both my IPad and IPhone are showing in ITunes Devices and the IPhone has just backed up wirelessly and the IPad is doing that as I write.

I had a similar problem. After a reboot of my Mac, the devices showed up in Wifi sync, but after the Mac went to sleep I could not sync anymore.

After some weeks of research, it seems I figured it out.

It appears that with the newer iTunes versions, Wifi sync relies exclusively on IPv6. If you do not have a router that assigns an IPv6 address to your Mac on your local network, the Mac will self-assign an IPv6 address during the boot process. What happens when the computer goes to sleep and then wakes up again, is that the kernel will do a DAD (duplicate address detection) and find that the self-assigned address is not unique. You will find in system.log the following entry:

kernel[0]: en0: possible hardware address duplication detected, disabling IPv6 for interface.

As the kernel says, it then disables IPv6 and you can't Wifi sync anymore, which relies on IPv6.

Here is the fix:

Go to your router settings (depends on the type, certainly) and enable the IPv6 DHCP server. This way, the Mac will receive a properly assigned IPv6 address from the DHCP server and the above DAD error does not occur again. With my Mac, Wifi-Sync and also Bonjour sleep proxy now works like a charm.

I am having the same problem, but I am using my iMac as a wireless router, so I am not sure how to "enable the IPv6 DHCP server. When I go to the network settings and click on the advanced settings there is a drop down menu that says Configure IPv6. The options in this menu are Automatically (this is where it is currently set), Manually (which brings up the fields router, IPv6 Address and Prefix Length) and link-local only. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am using 11.3 and was having this issue. Recently switched to a router that does 2.4 and 5G wireless. Since we don't use the 5G, I turned off he 5G and we just use the 2.4GHz, and all my devices can sync over wi-fi again.

Sorry to warm up this topic again! Really!

It's been six years now that I had inserted the persistent ID of my main computer into iTunes of my second computer in the iTunes Library.xlm and iTunes Library.itl. So I could also copy content of the second computer via USB to the IOS device. Wi-Fi sync was ONLY activated on the main computer.This has worked for a long time, until:

Wireless sync: After a certain update of OSX or iTunes in the past, the IOS devices no longer appeared in the main computer in the sidebar of iTunes.

Now I wanted to undo the whole thing. The recovery of the original persistent ID of the second computer did not work. It was constantly reconstructing the persistent ID of the main computer.

I have now reinstalled iTunes, created a new iTunes library and re-imported the audio / video data. iTunes Library now also has a new persistent ID.

Unfortunately, it still does not work. Only when I turn off the second computer and reboot the main computer, the IOS devices via Wi-Fi sync appear in the sidebar of the main computer. Once the second computer is back online, the devices disappear from the sidebar.

Console reported besides others duplicate entries in the application (i.e. MUX ID not found in directory mapping) and:

com.apple.usbmuxd[610]: _SendAttachNotification Device xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@yyyyyyyyyyyyy._apple-mobdev2._tcp.local. has already appeared on interface 4. Suppressing duplicate attach notification.

The second computer must have noticed somewhere that iOS devices have been connected with it. But where?

PS: system on both machines = OS 10.9.4, iTunes 11.4

Was OK before I upgraded to iOS8... I'm on iTunes 11.4 OSX 10.9.5 and this applies to iPhone 4S, iPhone 5S and iPad mini (all at iOS8).

All three sync OK when USB connected, but now disappear as soon as unplugged despite the sync over Wifi option being checked.

So it should fail to show all devices once Mac fails to re-use previous IPv6? But for my case, I have 4 devices (2 iPad 3, 1 iPhone 5s, 1 iPhone 4s), all were able to show in iTunes during their initial setup, e.g., first time configure to use Wi-Fi Sync. But after one day or one night, only 1 iPad 3 is shown in iTunes, after few hours, another iPad 3 joined the list. But 2 iPhones didn't show any more.

I am using AirPort Time Capsule, connecting using DHCP

- IPv6 Config: Auto

- IPv6 Mode: Native

- IPv6 Connection Sharing: Enabled

How to explain this? I found none of above tricks / explanations work for my case because my iTunes Wi-Fi Sync works for some devices only.
