It sounds like you are unable to use the Netflix app on the Apple TV because it keeps going back to the Home Screen. If you've been restarting the Apple TV by unplugging the power cable, then restart it wit this process and test it out again:

If the issue persists you may need to restore your Apple TV with a MicroUSB cable and your computer:
