From the drop down menu click Shut Down. (Do not click Restart)
Wait about ten seconds then startup your Mac as you normally would be pressing the power button.
Then see if the camera light is still on.

May 14, 2015 9:45 AM in response to kaz-kby LNelMel,Thank you!!! When I went to the directions for resetting the SMC, I saw the troubleshooting suggestions so I did that first. The very first one to force quit showed that possibly Photo Booth was using the camera. So I did a force quit and voila! Camera light is now off!!
