Did you get a Dual-Llink DVI to Thunderbolt adapter?
From the above link:
When you use a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter you must use a dual-link compatible adapter.
A mini DisplayPort adapter does work with a Thunderbolt port

I found the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter but it has terrible reviews on the Apple website — should I be concerned about this? I notice the reviews are from 2009 so maybe they aren't relevant anymore.
Is going from HDMI out to DVI adapter a possibility?

If you do not like the Apple brand, just Google "mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapters" and you will find them on Amazon, Monoprice.com (generally good prices on MonoPrice), NewEgg.com, etc... Amazon and NewEgg include reviews
