iTunesAs was said in the post above yours, a first gen iPod Touch only supports up to iOS 3.1.1, a second gen up to iOS 4.2.1 - your current iOS version shown in Settings > General > About > Version on your iPod.
You can see if your iPod is up-to-date, and update it if it's not (after first backing up, File > Devices > Back Up, and preferably copying any important documents/photos of it) via your computer's iTunes : Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
