Q: having trouble with wifi

i have a mac osx that i have for 4~5 years

so the wifi i was able to connect everytime suddenly had an exclamtion mark on it so i clicked on it and a system app popped up with an option wheither my wifi is D something or P something (i forgot the names im so sorry) and i clicked the D selection ( because it said if my wifi needs an username and a password you have to choose the D selection and if my wifi doesnt need a username or a password you choose the P selection) i typed in my wifi name and the wifi password then clicked continue, my wifi completely doesnt work anymore.

the wifi was connected to all the devices at home but for my laptop it says that the airport cannot be connected.

Please help. what happened? what should i do??

The why is black magic and voodoo failure of your chicken liver sacrifices.. well that is just as reasonable as anything in wifi.. the why is not so important.. this is a technology in its infancy .. there is still lots of voodoo. But updates either to firmware or OS can do it.. the neighbour moving his stuff around or installing higher power wifi than yours can do it. Gremlins can do it.. !!

To fix it.. that is what is important.

Did you try the simple things like reboot the airport.. reboot the whole network.. reboot the computer.

No luck then try and figure where the issue is.. if you go to wireless cafe etc can your MBP pickup wireless and internet ok.. if so it is most likely not the laptop.

How old is the airport?? What model? A1xxx from the base please.

I recommend you do a full factory reset of the airport.. give it new names.. both for the base and wireless.. eg AEgenX (replace X with the right number) and AEwifi

Setup security WPA2 Personal with pure alphanumeric password mix of case and numbers.

    Does the MBP now work?

No luck clear out all the old names.. clear out the old passwords.

    This is a good guide.

AirPort - Unable to connect after sleep/restart

    Tell us how that goes.

So apparently i made a new service on my wifi and my wifi connected!

But the thing is my AirPort service (the one i have connected ever since i got the laptop) is still not connected. I have tried rebooted my computer, deleted and added my wifi, anything (well maybe not everything) the AirPort is still not connected to my wifi.

I want to fix and know why this AirPort service is not working. I want to prevent this from happening again.

Sorry I am a bit lost..

So apparently i made a new service on my wifi and my wifi connected!

If you setup a new wireless name on the Airport Extreme or airport express. Please tell us explicitly what wireless router you have.. is this what you setup the new service on?? And if your wifi on the laptop then connected then everything is fine.

But the thing is my AirPort service (the one i have connected ever since i got the laptop) is still not connected.

You just said you setup a new service and it worked.. why didn't you reset your airport router?? That is the one you should create the new connection on.

the AirPort is still not connected to my wifi.

Reset the airport router to factory and start again.

What OS exactly are running on the computer that fails??

If the Airport is more than 4 years old it might be faulty.. did you test it with other clients.. is it only the one computer that is failing??

Have you run hardware or wireless diagnostics on the computer to make sure it is not hardware on the computer?
