Q: can the super drive read NTSC format?

I just got a super drive for my macbook pro. I'm looking at ordering a DVD video series and it says to make sure your DVD player can read NTSC format. I assume it can, but want to make suer. Thank you. ~ Sue

It will when the DVD is being played on the computer's monitor.

And would it still work if the computer was connected to a projector?

However, though the format may not be a problem the regional coding may be. If you are in the UK, for example, and you try to play a USA DVD which is Region 1 encoded, you will be told you have to change the region in the player. This is easy enough to do, and to change back, but you can do this only five times. After that the player remains where it was set on the last change, and you can never ever change it again. Reinstalling the system won't help.

It depends on whether or not the projector supports that video standard. NTSC is a video format, not a volume format.

It's an older projector, probably 2007 or 2008. My 15" macbook pro is a little small for a group of people to watch, but we could probably do it if necessary. I can connect it to my Bose bluetooth speaker for sound.
