Q: how to replace paragraph markers and tabs in Pages

The Find and Replace function seems to work only for text. Isn't there a way to replace paragraph markers and tabs? I know Word can do this but can't find it here in the Help area of Pages.

The best Apple WP Find/Replace dialog is in Pages ’09. Although one can use the advanced submenu in this application to search for invisible characters (tab included), one can alternatively enter option+tab in the Find input to locate document tabs. Works in Pages ’09 and v5.2.

I wrote this out for myself, and thought I'd share it.

I did this to delete “invisibles” like paragraph symbols in a Pages document.

    Sorry if this seems redundant.

Using info from the post by Christopher Brandow & Jon G. Hall. Thanks.

    Find & Replace

    1) Highlight what you want to find and replace.

It could be text, or an “invisible” symbol like paragraph symbol, or tab symbol.

    2) Click “Edit” Drop down menu > Find

        Or press (command+F)

This brings up the “Find & Replace” box.

You can highlight your search string at this point too

    3) Click “Edit” Drop down menu > Find > Use Selection for Find

        Or press (command+E)

Your highlighted selection is placed in the Find line in the “Find & Replace” window

You will not see it on the Find line, but it is there.

Something is there because the word “Find” no longer shows in the Find line.

Now you can use Find and Replace just like you use it with text

AND/OR  add “invisible” symbols to the Replace line too:

    1) Highlight the “invisible” symbol you want to put in the “Replace” line.

    2) Click “Edit” drop down menu > Find > Use Selection for Replace

Your highlighted selection is placed in the Replace line in the “Find & Replace” window

You will not see it on the Replace line, but it is there.

Something is there because the word “Replace” no longer shows in the Replace line.

So much easier and obvious than copying and pasting what you want to Find and Replace.

Just see how hard it is to even explain what to do in Pages '09!
