Q: How to change the face name of a batch of photos?

I have a set of photos in iPhoto that are all tagged with a certain face name.

They appear under that name on the faces cork board.

Now I would like to change the name of that face to someone else in all of those photos.

Does anyone know how I can do that? (it's about 300 photos)

For those who are interested why I want to do that:

the face is that of my son. I tagged the photos from the beginning (and some were tagged by iPhoto automatically).

Of course, at the beginning, I had not created a card in my contacts for him.

Now, my son has his own email address. So, now he's got his own card in Contacts.

But iPhoto does not make the connection between the name in iPhoto and the Contacts card, it seems.

(I know I could manually add an email address in iPhoto in the info panel on the right hand side, but that does not seem to make the connection to Contacts either.

Any ideas and pointers will be highly appreciated.

    Try the following:

    • Add one new photo of your son.
    • Tag this photo using his contact card.
    • Now you will have two Faces stacks of your son on the crock board..
    • Drag the older stack with all his previous photos onto the stack with the contact card name. Select "Merge"when prompted.

This will rename the older faces using the new name from the contact card.

Thanks a lot - this seems to have solved my question.

Now, I've got another question , also related to face tagging.

When I manually enter the name for a face (iPhoto has found the region of the face, but it is unnamed),

and I start typing, it presents me with some names.

I cannot see, which ones it takes from the list of previous names that already exist in iPhoto, and which ones it takes from the address book.

    Here is an example:

    face.png

All three names are in my address book, but the menu looks like iPhoto does not take the first name from my address book.

Can you (or someone else) shed some light on this, please?

Sorry, I could not get back to you yesterday, because I was travelling.

The badges in the list of suggested faces are a bit confusing.

You will see the Contacs icon only the first time you are using a name from the Contacts, for example: I created a new card "Luna Selene" and restarted Contacts and iPhoto.  Now the new card is showing with the "Contacts" badge, because it has never been used in iPhoto.

But once I have used the contact card to name a photo, the badge will not be shown again. iPhoto will show the faces information from the stack it already has. Otherwise it would create a duplicate faces stack. After I used the Contacts card, the list will look like this, without the "Contacts" badge.

If you want to update your "Faces" entry it will not suffice to update the "Contacts" card, you'll have to create a new Contacts card (duplicate the card and delete the original). Then restart Contacts and iPhoto.

Thanks a million for this extensive explanation. Now it's clear.

(And I still think, Apple could improve iPhoto in this area.)
