Q: Wireless routers that work with OS 10.9.4, besides Airport?

I got a Linksys router but it does not support Maverick OS. Besides buying an Airport, are there other routers out there that will work with this OS 10.9.4?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

In fact, I've never "met" a (non-Apple) router I didn't have to set up manually......

I am trying to use a Asus RT-N66u Dark Night router with my mac pro.  I have been unable to connect to it directly, using a wired connection, or wirelessly.  Can this router be used with Maverick?

As far as I can see, this help video doesn't depend on Windows - just use any browser!

    Does it Not work?

According to the user's manual, you would:

To log into the web GUI:

    1. On your web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome, manually key in the wireless router’s default IP address: 192.168.1.1
    2. On the login page, key in the default user name (admin) and password (admin).

    Safari would work as well.

Thank you Bob for all of your excellent guidence.  I took the Linksys back none the less and picked up a Netgear.  I plugged it in and was done in twenty minutes.  That is not an endorsement of Netgear (which I am sure is fine company), and I am sure all of the great advise that you gave would have work as well.  But as a 30 year Mac guy and still a "Level 1" user, I am a Mac guy because of plug and play, point and click, etc.  Macintosh was so right so many years ago when he said that the market is to the computer illiterate, and to a great extent, that is me.  But again many thanks for all your help and advise.  Randy.
