Q: 10.9.4 update freezes and does not wake properly up from sleep

After I installed this update (v10.9.4 Update) I have problems when "waking up from sleep" (something this was supposed to fix, but never was my problem). It now freezes a lot and when I force a reboot (holding the power button down) sometimes a question mark blinks or a circle with line across. Normally I force reboot again and then it works. Has anyone experienced same issues and found a solution to it?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

It's likely that the startup drive, or some other hardware component, is failing. Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.

Just backed it up. I used time machine. Is that enough you think?

It seems like it is getting worse. This morning it took my around 10 attempts just booting the poor thing and it switched between a question mark and then sometimes the "don't park here sign".

It's like it has got the flu!

So an antivirus software? No, got nothing like that. Should I? (suddenly this sounds like a very very stupid question, but as a Mac user, I have never had to.) What software would you recommend?
