Q: What does scaled resolution mean in OSX?

I am using a 4k monitor with the latest version of OSX. In display settings, I have a choice of using scaled resolution for getting larger text. But in these resolution will I lose quality over graphic application such as photoshop and lightroom?

 

Also there are two kind of resolution I can enlarge to. One kind is called scaled (2560x1440). Another kind is not scaled (1920x1080). Do both kind give the same consequences?

    scaled resolutions that allow you to have text and objects appear larger on screen, or to make them appear smaller which provides more space on screen.  Note: Scaled resolutions do not offer the same visual quality as the Retina setting. Scaled resolutions may also impact graphics performance depending on which applications you are using.
