Q: How to stop CIJScannerRegister to connect online?

Hi

I find out that my mac keeps trying to connect online with CIJScannerRegister.

Little Snitch application didn't propose me to setup a rule to stop the behavior of CIJScannerRegister.

What is it exactly? I found that it is a Canon printer related app(?)

and more important can I stop this non ending online behavior?

I hate to hear the fan of the Mac running nonstop from on, till off.

How to do stop CIJScannerRegister?

Please explain me step by step if possible,

specially if I have to use Terminal or so.

I'd rather use the coding way, but

if you got as well a solution with some rule from Little Snitch, pls let me know too.

Thank you for your help

Dear all, Dear Apple community thank you in advance.

Regards

oli.

CIJScannerRegister is of no use if you don't have an old Canon Inkjet, but Mavericks really wants to have it running all the time.

It's in /Library/Image Capture/Support/LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers, but if you remove it it will appear again in the form of a "Canon Inkjet Printer Software Update" in the App Store.

The only solution I found was to delete the executable inside the app bundle so the OS thinks it's still installed but it can't run.

    In Terminal:

    killall CIJScannerRegister
    cd /Library/Image\ Capture/Support/LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers/CIJScannerRegister.app/Contents/MacOS/
    sudo rm CIJScannerRegister

i don't have any Canon products connected to my system, and never have, yet CIJScannerRegister runs every time i start my iMac (running Mountain Lion). i do have an HP All-in-One Printer Scanner that i recently bought, and it was afterward that i noticed this rogue process running all the time, broadcasting constant chatter over UDP port 8612 to multicast address 224.0.0.1 and 192.x.x.255 (every 7 seconds). i think it has something to do with 'scanner sharing', which i do not have enabled. i didn't install any HP or 3rd party printer/scanner software either; i simply allowed the MacOS updater to download & install the appropriate printer software from Apple.

Thanks!   I first tar'd the CIJScannerRegister prior to deletion. Also, I had to kill the process(es) afterwards given they restarted prior to deleting the file.
