Q: apple tv connects to 2.4ghz on my dual band wireless router but not 5ghz.

I just bought the newest 3rd gen 1080p Apple TV.  I have a net gear n600 dual band router.  My Apple TV will connect to the 2.4 ghz band but not the 5ghz band.  I installed the newest firmware update for my router to see if that would help.  It will find the 5ghz, just won't connect. I checked my router config and the2.4 cannel is auto and the 5 is set to channel 153, does this make a difference? I also checked for an Apple TV update but it was up to date.
