Jul 7, 2014 6:42 PM in response to cromestantby Tangent Lin,Well, I put my programmer's hat on and tried to understand the system a little. Apparently, #OSX might have tried to avoid accidental click and drag for novice user, the short answer to this is user has to click and hold the button steady for roughly 0.5 seconds before dragging occurs. If the user does not and starts dragging within 0.5 seconds, there is a bug with OSX that whichever object that is under the mouse cursor when 0.5 second would end up being picked. I made up the 0.5 second here as I have no way to clock it preciously. This bug ends up making things so much more confusing.

Aug 19, 2014 10:31 AM in response to cromestantby Gillware Data Recovery,Maybe the same issue maybe not but it seems it hasn't been explained this way... When I attempt to drag and drop from an email to a folder I have opened up in Finder it sometimes works and sometimes not. I notice when it doesnt work if I click the finder window to make sure it is active and then go to OSX mail and drag and drop an attachment to that folder it then works.
I'm usuing duel monitors so both the finder window and the OSX mail are both front in center on each their own screen.
This issue is really annoying!

Sep 2, 2014 1:46 AM in response to cromestantby l.i.am,I had the same issue when upgrading to Mavericks, but I believe I may have the fix.
You have to reset your Finder preferences as per this tutorial: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/finder.html
I followed these instructions and drag and drop has performed fine since.
Hope it helps!

Sep 19, 2014 2:29 AM in response to l.i.amby dovbm,Since Drag and Drop does not work and Copy, Paste does not work either, after searching the internet, I found a solution that works for Copy and Paste and also for Drag and Drop. It consists in killing the process "pboard" and restarting the Finder. Use "activity monitor", search for "pboard", select it, and force to quit. Then restart the finder using "force to quit" into apple menu. It avoids rebooting the computer.

Oct 6, 2014 1:12 PM in response to dovbmby gt90,lol I just did that and it works. Thanks again for this workaround. Definitely better than restarting, but still very annoying.

Nov 16, 2014 10:41 AM in response to cromestantby jtalle,I was able to make it clear up instantly by unplugging my keyboard and mouse, then plugging them back in.
Now the Drag and Drop, plus the contextual menus are working great.

Nov 18, 2014 6:51 AM in response to cromestantby S Burt,Thanks, l.i.am. Your link http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/finder.html did the trick. If you are having this problem, please, try that link, first!
Your OS X install might hide the Library folder from you. (I hate this change so much.) If your Finder is usable, you can press Shift-Command-G and type in ~/Library to bring up your hidden Library folder.
Simply restarting the Finder didn't work, though. After I trashed the plists, I needed to restart before it was fixed. I believe this was a problem with the Favorites panel. While I was suffering from the crashing Finder, most of the time I could drag and drop without a crash as long as I didn't drag the file icon across the Favorites panel.

Nov 21, 2014 9:55 PM in response to cromestantby Truda_0,Hello to you all.
Just here to say that I've been having the same issue for months, and I can't find a solution anywhere.
Apple doesn't seem to take a look at this topic either.
About some characteristics of the issue:
-It is NOT only with Finder. It is with ANY drag and drop situation.
-Restarting Finder do NOT fix the issue neither deleting Finder preferences. Only rebooting fixes it. Temporarily.
-When trying to drag an item it gets stuck on the cursor for a few seconds, and if you won't constantly type "esc" or right click on something it can get stuck for a long period of time.
-It happens on Mavericks and Yosemite. So an update won't work for this issue.
Hope anyone up there could start working on this. It is really annoying and unproductive.

Nov 21, 2014 11:01 PM in response to Truda_0by jtalle,RE: Just tried. Did not work here...
Unplug your mouse. Unplug your keyboard.
Plug in your mouse. Plug in your keyboard.
See if that works.
