Q: apple tv - no airplay

Apple TV (black version) with 6.2 software (June 2014).  Iphone 4 with 6.1.3 was fine a few weeks ago but now no more airplay - no sign of the button on iphone in Music/Videos/You Tube app/ iPhoto etc...

Does this statement (from Apple TV software 6.1):

"Adds a security option to require that iOS devices or Macs be verified with a one-time, onscreen code before using AirPlay. Requires iOS 7.1 or later on an iOS device or a Mac with Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later"

mean Apple TV no longer supports Airplay for older iphones?

Wow, thanks for the detailed instructions.  I'll try that when I get a chance.  I've tried every other suggestion without luck.  I bought the darned thing for the mirroring, and it used to work without any problems.

Yeah, sometimes Apple tells you that you need to update the software on your devices but fails to tell you that you may need to update other things as well to make sure everything continues to work.

I thought that I'd report back that I finally got it to work.  I unplugged all 3 - TV, cable modem, and wireless router - for 45 minutes, then started them all up again.  Whether it was that or some auto-update in the Apple TV software, I don't know - but it's working again.  Finally!

I am having the same issue with one 3rd Gen Apple TV in the family room. I have an older 2nd Gen Apple TV in the master bedroom that appears to be fine. When I am in the family room and select AirPlay on my iPhone 5, iPad, or iPod Touch, it does not see the family room Apple TV, but they all see the bedroom Apple TV that is much farther away.

I have one of my Airports in the family room, so it isn't a matter of distance from Airport to AppleTV (5 ft). On Airport Utility, the WiFi signal is "Excellent" in the family room and it streams movies, plays songs from my iMac in the den with home sharing, etc.

I just can't get AirPlay to see the family room Apple TV.

I've done all the tips and suggestions listed such as cycling AirPlay off and on, making sure the WiFi is right (was fine anyway since I can stream, but I checked just in case), restarting it, resetting it, unplugging it for more than 30 sec. I did not unplug the Airport since all the other features work. I will try that next, but am skeptical that is the issue.

All devices may need a one-time verification with the AppleTV to work.

I resolved my issue by going to the AirPlay menu on the AppleTV and turning on the "Require Device Verification" option. I didn't catch this earlier because I don't want to use the verification feature. When turned on, the AppleTV should appear as an AirPlay option on your device. Enter the code that is displayed on the TV/monitor, then it should work.

After entering codes for the various devices I plan to use, I turned off the verification feature again. All devices now work properly.

Where is the on screen code displayed? I have an iPad 3 and iPhone 5 that connect to an Apple TV at the local library without any problems but 2 iPad 2's and an iPad Mini that will not. They did connect previously. I have turned on the "Require Device Verification" option but cannot find the code anywhere.

The code appeared on my display that is connected to the AppleTV. What is the AppleTV connected to?

Once you turned on the verification, did the AppleTV appear as an option on your device under AirPlay?

The AppleTV is connected to a Sharp television. After turning verification on the AppleTV, AirPlay and the AppleTV did appear as choices on the devices. I had selected use code on the AppleTV but no code ever displayed anywhere so changed the code to password and set a password. When the devices tried to AirPlay to the AppleTV the password was requested. Still would not display on the AppleTV. Actually tried two different AppleTVs so I think that it is something with the wireless network as I brought my Apple TV back home and it worked without any hiccups.
