AppleWorks 6 won't work on any OS later than Snow Leopard. You can open AppleWorks 6 word processing, spreadsheets & presentations in Pages 4, Numbers 2 & Keynote 5 or earlier respectively. The more recent versions cannot open any AppleWorks files. You cannot open any other type (draw, paint or database) of AppleWorks 6 documents with any iWork application nor can you open AppleWorks 5 or any version of ClarisWorks documents. LibreOffice v4.3.1. It can open many, but not all, types of AppleWorks & ClarisWorks documents but not database.

You will need access to a Mac that can run AppleWorks to open the database & can be copied & pasted into an AppleWorks spreadsheet, saved & opened in Numbers or saved as ASCII/plain text & opened in most any spreadsheet, database or word processing program. Since it is a business card database you may be better off printing it to a PDF.

    Hello,

in fact, LibreOffice v4.3.1 may be able to open some database documents(*): it does try to retrieve the content of the main database(**) and to open the result in Calc ( the spreadsheet module of LibreOffice ). But as I have very few database documents, this seems to work well with these files (which are very simple), but it is possible that this fails for more complex files :-~

(*) actually, LibreOffice v4.3.1 must only refuse to convert the presentation documents. At least, if it does not mistype them, which may be rare but can happen for some ClarisWorks v1-v3 documents :-~

(**) ie. only the text, number, time and date's records. Normally, it will create one row for each record while each column will correspond to a different field.

Thanks.  Looks like I am screwed since I do not have any of these programs.  Is there a easy way to delete Mavericks or reset programs to a date prior to Mavericks?

Restore the backup you made prior to upgrading to Mavericks.

LibreOffice is a free application which you can download by clicking the link (in blue) in my previous post.

It may be of some interest that TextWrangler will open the text of Appleworks WP files.

So will TextEdit but it will include the formatting codes which should be invisible, making it a difficult job to extract the actual contents (which will be unformatted, of course).
