Q: How to speed up a imac g4
I have a imac g4 17" flat panel 1.25 ghz 400 gb seagate hard drive running os 10.4.11 768 mb ddr sdram and yes it is very outdated. I use it for music creation in garageband 3.0.4 and I stream guitar lessons from the internet. I use youtube a lot. but it's performance on youtube has gotten so bad that I cannot use it for that anymore.
Is there an way to fix this?

While you could upgrade the RAM to 2048MB, that won't help the graphic processor.
That's a fixed hardware item co-existing on the logic board with its integrated chipset.
Maximum Memory: 2.0 GB (Actual) 1.0 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots: 1 - PC-2700 200-pin SO-DIMM (user accessible),
1 - PC-2700 184-pin SDRAM (factory installed)
{The 200-pin PC-2700 SO-DIMM is same chip an iBook G4 12"/14" Mid-2005 uses}
Another hardware upgrade for general speed increase, would be a Legacy SSD
such as one offered as compatible with slower HDD data rate PPCs, from OWC.

Anyway, the player angle may be adequate for some online content; though vintage
and not upgraded for PowerPC Mac. Also some page content uses HTML5 so you
could see if any vintage browser update offers useful compatibility with google's
youtube HTML5 player. And while one could upgrade to OS X 10.5.8 Leopard, the
overall effect is a slower system with less finesse than nicer OS X 10.4.11 Tiger.
Good luck & happy computing!
