I've got the same problem. My iPhone starts to show those annoying squares and the touch suddenly acts in a random way. I hope it's just a software problem, because if it's a hardware failure, Apple should create a special refund program for us or something.
Did the trick for me, thanks!

Mar 25, 2014 5:20 PM in response to wiwawiby mdbrg,Interesting. My 5s was having some minor screen issues (vertical lines that appeared suddenly), so I brought it to my local Apple Store. They checked it out and said they'd fix it for free. When I went to pick it up an hour later, they claimed they couldn't fix it after all because there was evidence of water in the phone. I did get it wet about a year ago, right after I bought it, but I dried it out right away, and it's been fine ever since. I understand, though, that my warranty is null and void as a result. I decided to live with the vertical lines rather than pay $269 for a new phone. No big deal. Then I looked at the phone, and I saw white boxes obscuring my screen, like the ones described in this thread. My phone was in worse condition than when I brought it in! I explained this, and they took the phone back to see what they could do. Then the Senior Manager came out and said they can't fix it and that my only option is to pay $269 for a new phone. I was totally shocked. She insisted the white boxes were caused by water damage, even though the boxes only showed up after they worked on the phone (and about a year after it was exposed to water). From what I read here, it sounds like just didn't put the phone back together correctly. Not sure what to do at this point. As a lifetime Apple customer, I'm extremely disappointed by such terrible customer service.

Apr 13, 2014 9:36 AM in response to mdbrgby shanen10,I am also disappointed. Got white lil squares too on my screen and cant do anything. Now it's an effin piece of ****. Went to the store and they said motherboard is busted and i need 400$ to have it replaced. This happened after the update a week ago and then while i was surfing the net it stopped working.

Apr 13, 2014 10:05 AM in response to mdbrgby stvhemi, its not likely they took your phone apart. water damage gets worse with time as it corrodes more and more from the minerals that were carried in by the water.

Apr 17, 2014 10:55 AM in response to Mads2828by slapshotdave,Didn't replace my screen, but the same display issues and the phone acting random and not responding to touch. started pinching my screen (firm but gently) at the top and all the problems went away. Obviously a loose connection. But if your in a bind and need your phone but can't get it repaired in a timely manner, just give it a little sqeeze.

Apr 24, 2014 7:33 AM in response to wiwawiby JKhair,I have the same problem as that, only they are at the bottom of my screen. Not only that, the screen keeps acting as if it has a mind of its own and randomly does stuff. I wonder why that is.

May 19, 2014 7:27 AM in response to wiwawiby jbrajkovic,I'm guessing there is something else going on with this phone. When I connect to itunes. It automatically tries to send something to Apple, but it never finishes. I'm going to try and restore and see what happens. Not hopeful

Sep 26, 2015 12:44 AM in response to wiwawiby Blacksp1d3r,Hey,
i found a solution that worked with me, but this is only when you are out of reperation time.
First of all, i found 2 kinds of those squares,
first one is when de squares are on top of the screen, that is from bad connection.
The other one is when the squares are in the middle of the screen, if you twist the phone, they should get worse or get better, that is from a bad connetion in the soldure on the main board.
Since we can not soldure they mainboard, i ifxed it by putting it in my oven, i removed everything and placed it 10 mins in the oven (only main board).
That fixed my mainboard's connection and the screen squares were gonne and the line that didn't work works again. I made a 2 hour movie from it, but it is a big file, if you want it, you can contact me, since i uploaded it on my server.
also got pictures of it

Nov 30, 2015 4:52 PM in response to wiwawiby istudent9,I just had a similar issue when I was attempting to fix a screen on an iPhone 5s. The problem seems to be from a disconnect between the lcd screen and the board itself. As it turns out if you go into the hardware of the phone, and in the upper right corner, there's a metal shield. If you have the proper tools (I assume if you've opened your phone then you have the proper tools), remove the shield and check that all three of the ribbon cables are seated correctly. That was how I fixed the issue with mine, but I can't have any guarantees.

Aug 25, 2016 10:44 AM in response to wiwawiby lmcroos,Definitely related to the display connectors. Had the same issue after opening the phone to change the battery and the artifacts at the top of the display just appeared when I powered on for the first time. I opened it up again, undid the 3 screws on the little cover at the top right of the phone and found one of the connectors was not properly snapped in. Pushed it back in and reinstalled the cover and it was fine after that. I guess I had dislodged it when I lifted the display to get at the battery. It's the display connectors for sure.
