Then create a backup on your computer using iTunes by connecting it to your computer, opening iTunes, clicking on the name of your phone in iTunes, then going to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and clicking Back Up Now. Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases. Then you can turn airplane mode off, turn your wifi back on and let it erase. When it's done, restore to the iTunes backup you just made to return it to its former state.

So as long as the iPhone is still off or in airplane mode when you sent the wipe command -and you have not turned it back on yet- just take the phone off your iCloud account, then power up the iPhone, and you can add it again to your iCloud. I did not even have to do a backup. It just worked! I guess Apple must have created this option since I can see that a few people must have had the issue. Good luck.

Aug 27, 2014 1:03 AM in response to lewbundyby nicola1202,Here’s my question. My laptop is broken and I had a crack in my iPhone screen. Prior to sending it in to repair I backed up using iCloud and before restoring my phone to factory settings decided to do the software update. Half way through the update it asked me to connect to iTunes. So here’s were it gets complicated…
My charger is also broken, so in my panic at the stranger fixing my phone seeing my personal stuff I used the erase everything on the find my iPhone app, thinking iCloud had my back. It was still asking to be connected to iTunes so my friend have me their laptop nod charger (automatic sync not turned on) I plugged it in, the command went away and I sent my phone to be repaired.
It came back all shiny and new, but iCloud back up disppeared along with four years of photos, videos, etc etc. I contacted apple who had engineers go through their servers to find nothing from my iPhone backed up. I searched my friends laptop for music I have bought and even plugged the phone into their laptop but comes up with their phones name and their last back up. I have restored from iCloud and set up as a new phone.
I am worried my friend will have my information from my iPhone. Is it possible and if not has it just been erased forever?
sorry not really an answer but similar sort of question

If your phone was only connected to your friend's laptop but didn't sync with iTunes your friend won't have your data. If your iCloud backup isn't there, and you don't have another backup on your own computer they your data is gone at this point.
