Aug 28, 2014 9:00 AM in response to bdr_777by MartinR,It depends on what kind of inputs your TV has. If it has HDMI, miniDisplayPort, DisplayPort, DVI or VGA then then answer is yes and all you need is the proper adapter & cable.
Your 2009 iMac probably has a miniDisplayport output. If your TV has an HDMI input then you need the Apple miniDisplayport-DVI Adapter plus a DVI-to-HDMI cable like this one. Note you may also need an audio cable; normally this is a 3.5mm male stereo on one end and 2x RCA male on the other, but it depends on the kind of audio connection(s) your TV has.
Here is more information about the Apple miniDisplayport adapters that are available. I have NEVER had a problem with ANY of the Apple adapters. There are also third-party adapters that may be higher or lower priced but I have not had good experience with them.
