Q: Apple ID Keeps Asking Me To Change My Password In A Perpetual Loop

I recently had an email from Apple saying someone from China was trying to download an app using my ID and password. They said I needed to change my password, so I did. (Just to NOTE: I am not having problems logging in to my Apple ID acct. I logged in using my @me.com email)

But now I keep getting a message on my PowerMac saying

--------------------------

"This Mac cannot connect to iCloud because of a problem with rod@xxxxx.com"

(my primary email, which I have had forever and used many years ago when first signing up for an Apple ID).

--------------------------

So, when I log in to my Apple ID, I can't log in unless I use my @me.com email but apparently there is an old email of mine still linked to my account because it keeps asking me to change my password in a never-ending loop every 10 minutes and it's driving me bonkers. I can't turn it off.

PROBLEM: So, then I go to the Apple ID support page and gives you options to try and find "emails associated with this account" but all that does when you enter all the old emails you may think are connected to it is logs you in to your account or takes you to the page to reset the password again. It doesn't tell you which emails are/were associated with the account OR give you the options to delete or disassociate those emails from the account.

I just want to figure out how to make those messages stop telling me I need to fix my iCloud preferences every ten minutes.

Thanks for your input in advance

I assume you're talking about your iCloud account, although your profile still shows you are running 10.6.8 which can't use iCloud.

Have you checked to make sure you aren't still logged in with the old ID for some service on your Mac?  Check System Preferences>Internet Accounts (Mail,Contacts,Calendars); also open Mail>Accounts, Calendar (iCal)>Accounts, Contacts>Accounts, Reminders>Accounts, Notes>Accounts, Messages>Preferences>Accounts to make sure you don't see the old ID anywhere.

If you don't, you might try signing completely out of iCloud by going to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out, choose Delete at all of the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), restart your Mac, then go back and sign back in (your data will then download back to your Mac).

That may have been a phishing attempt. Are you sure, it was a genuine email from Apple?  If you possibly entered your AppleID data on a fake site, give the Apple account security team a call, only they will be able to help you. See this webpage on how to contact Apple Support in your country: There are either telephone numbers given or an email form:

Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security

Explain, that you need help with an account security problem.  You can also try to email the iTunes Support using this form:

    Thank you randers.

The past several days, I have been so busy, I couldn't try this until today. It seems to have worked, at least, so far.

I went to Preferences>Accounts and then iCloud separately and reentered my password and preliminary signs seems like it may have worked but this is one of those things that seems to make me look dumb because I already did this, when it asked me to enter my password, it kept going in a loop trying to get me to change my password each time but maybe it was because I just followed the prompts to the iCloud Pref password reset page. But going in to iCloud directly seems to have done the trick. But, again, I thought I did this before I created this thread.

I hope it sticks If not, I will try the other things you mentioned and report back but all looks good so far!
