Q: Printer keeps going offline.

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8630 printer - when I hit "Control P" my printer goes offline - how can I correct that and prevent it from continuing?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013)

So that we understand -
The printer goes offline only when you type control-p? When you try print from the menu it works OK?
((Is it a USB printer or network printer? anything else relevant - like you are using a Macbook and you unplug the printer frequently?)

Yes goes offline only when I hit Control P and then I get the little yellow box with the squiggle in it and need to reboot computer and then what had been trying to print will print. It is wireless and using a MacPro air 13 and no I don't unplug the printer.

Try a Safe Boot (which does some system repairs in the background):
OS X Mavericks: Start up in safe mode
It usually takes a few minutes longer than regular startup. Then after it is complete, restart normally.
Any change with control-p?
