Q: Aperture won't show me Recent or 12 months

Here is what I see...

Screen Shot 2014-01-19 at 2.49.27 PM.JPG

I just added about 160 pictures to my library and something happened. I restarted aperture... I rebuilt and repaired. I restarted. I repaired permissions. But Last 12 Months=0. Last Import=0. Help me. Help.

I don't know how to make this right. It makes me hate aperture. Things constantly go wrong with it. Constantly.

Are the images you imported in the actual project(s) you imported into?

If the images are in the project(s) then this is a bookkeeping issue with Aperture but if the import did not happen at all then that is another issue.

Depending on which one it is will determine how to try and figure out what is going on.

The images did import. They are in the photo library. Bookkeeping issue. But still... how the heck do I fix it? Why doesn't it know I have 12 months of photos?

The last import can be zero, if you moved the images from the last imported project to a different project.

The last 12 month can be empty, if all images are older and have dates from before 2012, even if the have been imported just recently.  Did you import older images or recently taken images?

And have you checked the search fields in the browser, if filters are set?

Here the search field is set to "unrated" and the 12 month album appears to be empty.

My best guess then is, as Léonie mentioned, a filter on the browser.

If you are positive it is not a filter then make a new Aperture library and import a few images into ti and see if ti works in the new library.

If it fails in a new library make a new user  (or use the Guest account) and run Aperture and try the import there and see if it works.

If it works in the new account but failed on the new library in your account then I would try moving the Preference file out and seeing if that fixes it.

See Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics for directions on how to do that.

Not a filter. But now all the pictures are back, but it's not showing counts next to the folders. There is no number next to twelve months or the entire library. It used to tell me how many photos I had in those folders. Thanks for the tip. I may try those. I have to be honest though, Aperture has been nothing but trouble since I first installed it.

If all the counts are missing check your Preferences

Make sure Show number of versions is checked. If it is try unchecking and the checking again

Thanks, but that didn't fix it.

Then you need to remove the preference file as show in the link I posted above Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

I had (have) the same issue, what got the "last 12 months' to update was going into preferences and changing the number of months to 13 and back to 12. Don't know what will happen when I next import but it's updated...

I found a solution. Go into preferences and uncheck Show last 12 months album and then check it again. That did the trick for me. Whoot!!
