Q: My Touch ID option is GONE???

I recently updated my iPhone 5S 32GB to iOS version 7.0.4.  After the update, i noticed that my touch ID was not longer working. It would not even recognize my fingerprint at all. I went into Settings > General > and Passcode Lock... Passcode Lock & Touch ID option was gone... Doesn't even exist anymore. I now only have the option to use passcode lock. As if Touch ID never existed. I searched forums and couldn'g find a similar problem on a 5S. I Restored all Content and Settings on my iPhone and Restored to an iCloud Backup that was a day or two old. No big deal. Touch ID is still gone. Can someone please help me?

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.4, Corporate Profile is installed

Well, that's probably why it doesn't work. You should be able to purchase an out-of-warranty replacement for less than the price of a new phone.

The phone has liquid damage indicators. That's how Apple knows it got wet. It could have been splashed with liquid or set in a puddle of liquid on a table or counter. However, now that it has gotten wet, the damage is done.

When hardware is already damaged, an update can stress it enough for the damage to manifest. Also, liquid damage can grow worse over time as the corrosion increases even after the phone is dry. But you're right. You have a hardware problem and no warranty. Time to purchase an out of warranty phone.

ok thank you, but some users say it's a software issue, do you think the update to iOS 8 could solve this problem?

Your iPhone has liquid damage.  Whether that occurred from being dropped in a toilet or excessive humidity, it doesn't matter. It has liquid damage.  Liquid damage prevents free replacement under warranty.  Your out-of-warranty replacement price will be $269 USD + tax, far less than the cost of any iPhone 5S (they start at $649 USD + tax)  That's a 58.5 - 68.3 % discount off the retail price, and the replacement iPhone will have either the remaining warranty time of the original, or 90-days, whichever is greater.

It doesn't matter when the problem surfaced.  Liquid damage can lay dormant for a while.  There are accounts of people on this forum that have had definitive liquid damage, and were able to use a desiccant like uncooked dry white rice, for example, to dry out their devices and get them functioning again.  However, the caveat is always that you may have issues in the future.

Liquid contact in June can create problems in August.  Just because you just know encountered a visible problem doesn't mean it had anything to do with an iOS update.

Read through the tread again. It's a hardware issue. iOS 8 will not fix it

No, it won't.  It's NOT an iOS problem.  If it was, then EVERY iPhone 5S running the same iOS would have the same problem.  That's how software works.

Your device needs to be serviced.  Your options have been given, and the root cause has been identified by Apple.

I was having the same problem. I bought a new iphone and while I was there they set up the Touch ID for me. After getting home I  did an itunes restore from the backup of my prior iphone. I realized the following day that my phone wasn't giving me the fingerprint option so I started searching for fixes and found many that said go to Settings, General, Touch ID. However the Touch ID Option wasn't listed. I read people saying it was a problem with the device and to return it for a replacement.  I found the option but it wasn't where they had been suggesting. Go to Settings and in the third group of options, starting with General, look further down the list and you will find  the Touch ID & Passcode option  right above Privacy  and below Sounds and enter your passcode. There you have the option to Add a Fingerprint or turn passcode off, etc. i certainly didn't have a hardware problem and I don't understand why a replacement wouldn't have the exact same missing Touch ID problem that the previous phone had. Is it possible the newer IOS version relocated the option in a different area. Hope this helps.

Also, to access the Touch ID from your passworded phone, swipe the screen to the right like always and at the password screen simply rest the appropriate finger on the home button making sure to keep it there until your fingerprint is recognized (only takes a few seconds). It took me forever to figure out this annoying problem. I hope this saves you time and resolves your problem for you. (Make sure you've set up all your fingerprints prior to doing the above). I doubt that was necessary to point out but mentioned it regardless just in case. Good luck.

    MaryT88,

Thank you so much!  You were exactly right, I plugged in my iphone5s (just purchased yesterday) into my computer, logged into Itunes and the TouchID & Password option came back immediately!

You are my hero of the day
