Q: Bitdefender - how long does it take to scan entire system?

Been advised to do this, that's fine. It's been running half an hour. Does anyone know how long it'll take in total? I'm not a huge fan of leaving my Mac on overnight but I will if I have to. Any advice gratefully received.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Most variants around the web lately are malware bundles, unless you're careful what you download (and who is) you may get one.

    Exactly what I meant.

Added that to the obvious fact that this OP (like many) does not check what they download, or where they download it from and you have an excellent malware delivery system, one that is working well.

First, pic here: http://tinypic.com/r/2e2o3g7/8 (I can see it, that's odd). Second - I called the Apple store in Covent Garden to talk to someone about my battery. The guy I talked to told me to install MPlayer. So that is worrying and I will be questioning them about that tomorrow morning when I go in to get the battery replaced. They better do it fast, after all this.

Also, I don't download junk - I downloaded Div X player because I was uneducated about what it is. I was advised to download MPlayer and Bitdefender by the Apple store. I was advised to download Safe Mac by a guy on here. However, I will certainly run it at least once a week.

It was just a temporary glitch with the forum. That's also why you couldn't see the screenshots in John Holt's document. We can see it now.

It was BitDefender to which I referred, the others are annoyances or nothing, BitDefender is the real problem (maybe one of many but I have no idea what else is running on your Mac)

    Praiford -

“I am not sure what you mean by the fact that you can't use the back button to go back a page on Safari.”

You can use this button (the one above the return key) to go back 1 page on Chrome. In Safari you can’t. You’re right of course about finger swiping I hear you on Windows. For a client I use a Citrix interface to get into a CMS designed in Adobe Experience Manager. I can’t convey to you how awful it is.

Nice, though I couldn’t take that kind of heat. I live in London but I am from Manchester, we’re a bit Seattle ;-)

Excellent advice re Spotlight, thank you. I think better safe than sorry - if Bitdefender helps even a bit, that’s fine by me. I feel well protected now. I just have to get this **** battery put in and I fear the worst re how long it’s going to take. Also, I got MPlayer from the App store, which I thought was safe. I’ve gotten rid now, I don’t need it. If I need a simple file to play there’s always VLC. Understood re Mail. As for downloading, I really don’t. I got DivX Player because I was stupid. As a rule I stream, I don’t download.

I guess the question is, now that I have 2, do I need more AV software? Can one be too paranoid or overdo it? Which ones do you use?

Finally, I looked at the Spigot link and there’s nothing in Application Support (bc Safe Mac deleted it!) but there IS a lot of crap I don’t recognise. Not sure what to do about that. I've taken screen shots: http://tinypic.com/r/mm4j09/8 http://tinypic.com/r/30m2vwi/8 Are either of these lists troublesome? Is there anything there that shouldn't be there?

You can use this button (the one above the return key) to go back 1 page on Chrome. In Safari you can’t.

Yes you can, it is the standard function of the 'Back' button. How many more functions are not working (rhetorical)

Erm, I can't. When in Safari you can't use the <--- button to go back. It's a small thing tho bc I'm still not keen on ditching Chrome!

Backspace key in Safari no longer goes back a page

When you said Back Button I did not assume that you meant the Backspace Key,

Good luck with your issues. I'll leave you to it.

I wrote it out as <--- and I said it was the key above the return key. I don't see how anyone could misunderstand which key I was talking about, unless of course they were looking to pick and be an unhelpful pedant. Good luck to you too.

As I was not the only one who misunderstood what you meant I will not worry about my comprehension.

I'm sure I'll learn how to live with that. You've been pretty snarky toward me since page 1, unlike everyone else contributing to this thread. Not to worry though eh?
