I understand the frustration of not being able to backup with iCloud. I also understand you have already looked over the following link. I would suggest following the step in this article to isolate the situation by trying to sign in to the Apple ID website.

Go to My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com), click “Manage your Apple ID,” and try to sign in with your Apple ID. If you are unable to sign in, follow the steps provided there to reset your Apple ID account password.
