Q: Trouble with OSX 10.9.4 build 13E28 Macbook Pro

Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks my Macbook Pro (mid 2009) system has been acting up...it's running hot, the trackpad is balky and indeterminate in it's operation...links are selected that I don't select and others are hard to activate, etd...overall the system is now becomes very slow when taxed at all..(video)

and I would appreciate someone here that perhaps knows more than I taking a look at my system state via the etraCheck data below and perhaps make a few suggestion as to how to imiprove my current Mac experience. Thank you!  (Ran)

I ran Disk Utility (in safe mode) and repaired disk permissions on my HD (yet again) and without fail it always

comes up with the same 3 permission or group issues which, as you can see it repairs...that is until the next

time I repair permissions.....How can I fix these issues myself  and make sure the repair sticks??

The first one can be fixed by deleting a file within Safari, but I don't recommend it. Although it says it fixed the problem, Disk Utility doesn't have the ability to change a real file into a symlink (alias). It is reporting a change in Safari from what was originally installed. Accept and ignore would be my recommendation.

The printer errors being reported are being fixed, but every time you run Software Update they get changed back to what they were. Again, accept and ignore.

Believe me, it used to be way worse than it is today: See Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore.

I accept and will ignore..thanks MadMac I can do that...

This trackpad issue I have seemed to spring up immediately upon upgrading to Mavericks (originally, before 10.9.4 was released)

It seems to set off any hot link within a stone's throw from the cursor position...and does not activate what I do want....let alone

activating whatever link it slides over in normal operation on the way to my chosen destination...Annoying isn't a strong enough

    word to describe the issue...

Since nobody has commented yet on the trackpad issue is a new battery the common/most reasonable fix...? (is there something

    else to try?)

    Thanks again!

Never had such an issue myself, which is why I haven't said anything, but from numerous postings I've run across here, battery swelling is by far the most common cause. This article to explain why it isn't malware is somewhat old, but probably just as accurate today: My mouse keeps moving around on its own, as if someone is remotely controlling my Mac!.

I had this issue. I resolved it by doing a Safari reset.

OP had five or six issues, most not involving a browser at all. How were you able to resolve them all with a Safari reset?

    Thanks...

I just realized that my trackpad won't depress easily on the upper corners, making the battery the culprit

and it's replacment likely to solve the issue of trackpad instability.

    Thank you everyone
