Q: how do you turn iAd's into iBA widgets?

I am trying to get PDF documents to download from an iBA iBook HTML widget. I tried this from Dreamweaver but the pdf's will only view in iBooks with no option to save them. In iAd it is easy to make pdf documents that can be downloaded to iBooks as new pdf documents allowing readers of my books to download, print and email the pdf's.

So the question is how do i chance an iAd into a file that will work with iBA? I have used the AdUnit and added an info.plist, Default.png and changed the name of the index.html to start.html and targeted this file in my info.plist. Then converted the AdUnit to a .wdgt file. I can add it to my iBook in iBA but it opens and then goes blank when previewed in iBook on mac or iPad.

Any ideas how to use the HTML files created from iAd to make a wdgt? The reason i am not just using widgets in iAd Producer is they do not have the same options as iAds so they do not offer downloads.

Thanks in advance for anyone who has any knowledge of this.

As I noted in MailMessage not available? and Saving a PDF file,

As I understand it from a seminar I once attended, what you are asking for is not an iAd Producer limitation, but a purposeful limitation in iBooks. If I recall correctly, it was implemented that way to prevent widgets from installing rogue content onto user's devices without their consent.

So, iAd Producer is not arbitrarily limiting you, iBooks is limiting you, and iAd Producer is limiting functionality based on the target platform. The underlying JavaScript object that provides enhanced iOS functionality to iAds is only available within the iAd runtime; referencing it in an iBooks Author widget will return "undefined".

As always, I recommend making your thoughts known to Apple:

The iBooks widget viewer offers very little iOS-specific functionality. I encourage you to request support for this via http://bugreport.apple.com or the iBooks feedback page:

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ibooks_ios.html

Does that answer you question (albeit unsatisfactorily)?

Hi, Yeah this does answer the question although does confirm my fears that this may not be possible. Spent a day getting close to it working but the comment about the runtime does make sense although I am slightly confused as to why it works in safari, and dreamweaver but not as html in iBooks but as you say itsdastardly   iBooks stopping the script. shame.

Have message apple to request they add this functionality as would help massively for educators like me to share resources within iBooks.

    Thanks for your help.
