Sep 10, 2014 7:05 PM in response to JonnyVisALIVEby thedonkatsu,I have the same problem.
The one on FB messenger went away after a couple of days but I use Whatsapp more and this is annoying the life out of me.
Apple, there's a reason why you put "NONE" as alert option in the notification center so why won't you let us choose that and be done with it?

Apple doesn't read or respond here. You can send your suggestion to them on their web site.

Sep 10, 2014 7:10 PM in response to pogsterby thedonkatsu,It was more like a rhetorical question though. I know they won't respond here. Just need to let it out while waiting for solutions/suggestions from other users.

Hi,
Thanks for your message.
Thank you for your feedback, and we apologize for the inconvenience the notification and microphone alerts have caused. The next version of WhatsApp will present these alerts to you much less frequently. Unfortunately we cannot comment when the next version will be released, but we hope to get it to you as soon as possible.
Notifications let you know when you've received messages when WhatsApp is not open, and the phone's microphone setting allows you to use to our Voice Messaging feature. Because these settings will allow for the best possible experience with WhatsApp, we encourage you to keep these settings turned on. In the current version of WhatsApp, you will see an alert to turn on your notifications or microphone until these settings are turned on.
If you do not wish to receive alerts about new messages, you can use your iPhone's **Do Not Disturb** feature :http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5463

Sep 15, 2014 7:09 PM in response to mottajoaoby tony.lv7,Apparently this is Whatsapp enforcing us to turn on notifications. They responded the same thing for me. They're ruining the app.

Sep 16, 2014 6:39 AM in response to JonnyVisALIVEby anthonyj12x,I have the same problem and it is annoying the living daylights out of me. I installed updates for ios and whatsapp last week and I now regret doing so. This is one of the reasons why I am now reticent to install updates for any application any more. Right now I see that I have 23 updates on my iphone that I will not be installing.

Feb 15, 2015 3:38 AM in response to JonnyVisALIVEby 000Bob000,You go in settings of Whatsapp (in the app not in ios), then notifications and choose reinitialise.
Then you set 'alerts' ON and 'notifications in app' NONE.
It works, no message anymore and only the red bubble ok.
ps. The settings in ios remain the same -> red bubble
