Q: My iPad wont turn on? but apple logo appears

Yesterday my ipad died, I placed it on charge and a few hours later i noticed it still hadnt turned on so i used another 3 different chords. The ipad has been charging for more than 24 hours and over night. Around every 10-20 seconds the apple logo appears as if it's about to turn on but then the screen goes back to the black screen and sometimes the charging symbol appears. I've tried to reboot it many times by holding down the lock and home button and the apple logo appears but nothing else happens. if i unplug the ipad it shows the symbol of it needing to be charged so i know that the chords are working. i've had my ipad for over a year and nothing like this has happened before. someone please help me? ta x

I used the jump start trick... I had the same issue on my iPhone

    Method 1# Jump Start

Connect your iPhone to your switched of computer and start your computer, your phone should start along and if everything goes as well the phone should boot up properly.

Thank you so so sooooooooooooo much for this extremely helpful information. I have been trying to get it fixed for half a year in vain. Apple couldn't even help me, and I was so upset that I wasted money on a product that I had barely used (started having problems 4 months after I bought it) but thanks to you it is charging again, and hasn't for half a year.

    Thank You So Much.

    Sincerely Tatiana

Hey, i am having the same issue with my iPad 3 but with a slight variation.

The iPad 3 can't be turned on without plugging in to the wall charger. At first it shows the red battery screen and then the apple logo comes up.

It goes to the Home screen and reports 92% battery and a fully charged battery logo. It stays on around 3 minutes and then shuts off.

Again that red battery screen and Home screen and reboot. It keeps doing that without any charging.

Now the iPad is dead as brick without the wall charger, no response, whatever be the key combination and the duration. I can't understand why the battery would die so sudden. I was getting amazing battery life even few days back.

One other thing, I see the date has been reset to 1970, Jan 1 and the WiFi button remains grayed out while the Bluetooth keeps spinning.

    Hi,

My ipad 3 have exactly the same problem as described by kolkatan (Sep 20, 2014), "can't be turned on without plugging in to the wall charger", "reports 92% battery and a fully charged battery logo. It stays on around 3 minutes". The problem appeared after I upgraded the device from IOS 6.? to IOS 7.0.4 beta). I tried WildChild7778 s post from April but it did not work. Could it be that the battery is really bad?

I plugged it to PC in recover mode, itunes said that it must be restored to be used, but I would lost my valuable family photos and videos! I have never back up them in itunes. The device does not appear in windows explorer too. Are there ways to recover it without hurting the photos?

The jump start method also did not work. I tried many recovery softwares, but they could not recognize the device. The apple store would replace it, but I would lost my photos!

Could unix or linux systems recognize the device so that the photos could be retrieved? Or any other methods to retrieve the photos, apart from tearing out the 16GB memory physically?

Any suggestions to recover the photos are really appreciated!

    Thank you very much,

    batay

I just  fixed mine with the plug it in with the spinning wheel fix. The key is to plug it in then while it starts to power on, unplug it, then when it starts to shut down again as soon as the wheel starts spinning plug it back in. Left mine for 3 hours and it's working fine. So glad I found this.... was thinking I just earned a 700$ paper weight.

I had this problem and reviewed all the responses on this thread but none of the them worked.  Continuing to search the web I found this at a web site run by Eric Jaffe and it worked!  Maybe it will help you to.  I make no claim to this solution other than it worked for me.  I will say that I did not have my iPad 2 connected to the computer when I put it into DFU mode but I immediately connected it to the computer with iTunes when it went blank.

    Good luck.

Fixes these items on your Ipad 2:

    • Device continually restarts but never displays the Home screen.
    • An update or restore did not complete and the device is no longer recognized in iTunes.
    • Stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.

Here’s what you’ll need to do to get your Ipad into DFU mode:

    • Plug the iPad into your computer
    • Launch iTunes
    • Hold down the Power button and the Home button at the same time
    • Keep holding both of these buttons for 10 seconds
    • After 10 seconds pass, release the Power button but continue to hold the Home button for another 3-5 seconds
    • When in DFU mode, your iPad screen will stay completely black. If you see an Apple logo or otherwise you did not enter DFU mode
    • iTunes will notify you that it has detected a device in recovery mode
    • Once in DFU mode the Itunes firmware modifying app will take over, follow those instructions

    What is Ipad DFU mode?

DFU stands for Device Firmware Update, entering DFU Mode allows you to update or re install your Ipad, Ipod, or other iOS device’s firmware.

Well I had the same issue with my iPad. here is what I did to resolve it in within couple of hours.

Plug iPad into wall socket charger and keep it for at least 45 mins. This would ensure it has enough charge  to do multiple reboots in the recovery/restoration process.

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE using the below steps:

Note: Ensure your iTunes is latest if not just update it. Should not take more than 15 mins on a good connection.

    1. Turn on computer/laptop and launch iTunes (make sure you use the latest version of iTunes)

    2. Plug USB cable of iPad into the USB port

    3. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTunes and plug.

    4. Release Home button.

    ON PC/Laptop

    5. iTune detects iPad in recovery mode (you might get a notification of drivers being installed in the right corner for the USB Device connected; just let it complete).

    6. iTunes will now detect iPad and ask for Restore & Update. Select "Restore iPad"

    7. iTunes will download the latest Software for the iPad and this could take anywhere between 30 to 60 mins. You can disconnect your iPad after 10 mins and plug it back to the socket charger for charging. Reconnect iPad 2 mins before the download completes using steps 2 to 4.

    8. Follow the Restoration steps and do not disconnect iPad before it gets completed.

    9. Once the restoration completes it will take your through the completion process on iPad, just follow steps quickly.

    10. Put iPad back on the charging through wall socket charger and confirm it is charging.

    11. Now turn off the iPad and let it charge for a sometime.

I hope this fixes your issue and that you are able to use your iPad just like I am able to now.
