Q: what is the best imac temperature monitor program
24 inch iMac (OS X 10.6.8, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3)
The cooling fans do not appear to come on, ever. BUT the other day after a shut down (normally leave the unit sleeping) the fan (or fans) came on apparently a full speed. At the next wake-up the fan did not come on. Did shut-down and and the fans did not work at the power up. I have always though that this unit has run hot, has never had any air flow and the top is always very warm.
What can I do to make the fans operate (settings ?) 2. are there programs that can monitor internal iMac temps.
thanks
iMac (24-inch Early 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Be wary of cnet downloads page links, as there are several there which
DO NOT get you the software you seek, and can instead load adware or
other malware; you can check the outdated version iStat Pro version is
no longer available from the maker directly, over a year ago.
There are a few relatively safe/r mirror sites available that appear to have
the original size file that can get you a clean (as of earlier this year) copy.
While I checked this, six months ago, I didn't save the link because I have
an original copy in archive as .zip from the maker's site two years ago. And
then again, in the Lounge discussions I checked into this topic again:
A link I found in August 2014 that appears to have provided me a clean
iStat Pro v. 4.92 download (1MB zip) still works at this mirror...
http://mac.majorgeeks.com/mg/getmirror/istat_pro,1.html
{Test the size of the file, what downloads and opens, to be sure that's all it is.}
PS: the ifixit.com site may have a repair guide that could be helpful in
cleaning dust out of the cooling fan; however the fan may be defective.
Good luck & hopefully your download won't include spigot or other adware.
