Jul 18, 2014 9:26 PM in response to BaldMountainRoseby Dah•veed,Preparing a 2nd Hand Mac for use -
You need to erase the HDD, reinstall the version of OS X that shipped from the factory on the Mac and then set it up as new with your own Apple ID.
User Linc Davis explains how a new owner can prepare a 2nd hand Mac for their own use.

Jul 18, 2014 9:30 PM in response to anianianiby gail from maine,Yes you are correct in your understanding of how it works. The purchaser of the app is the owner of the app - forever. That is how it works for both the Mac App Store and the App Store for iOS.

Aug 23, 2014 10:31 AM in response to sengguohongby nbalak,I had a similar situation on my work laptop. Here's what I did -- I used finder to move the following applications to trash: Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iPhoto, iMovie. It is necessary to have admin privileges on the computer (which I do). Once these are removed, the App Store app would let me sign in using my own Apple ID. I'm now able to install my own purchases including the 5 apps I deleted. Hope this helps.

Aug 29, 2014 4:08 AM in response to gail from maineby snkcook,I have just changed my ID / Primary Email from an email account that no longer worked to one that does. I logged into the website and changed it all there, so it's the SAME ACCOUNT but just a different ID / Email
Yet, I can't update the Apps on my iPod, and when I access the iTunes Store through my PC using my new ID, it tells me I haven't purchased any music.
The issue I think most of us have with this is that WE HAVE PURCHASED THE CONTENT - IT IS LEGALLY OURS, but if you change your ID/ primary email address because you have to, that content is frozen with the old ID/email. I can't update Apps THAT I HAVE PAID FOR on a machine THAT I OWN. When my iPod stops working all the music that I purchased and downloaded on it will also disappear and will have to be re-purchased. And I can't go back to the old email address - it doesn't exist so it can't be verified.
This is unutterable rubbish. The arrogance of Apple is simply breathtaking. I've worked in computing - this isn't hard. You could allow us to type in a new ID, and so long as it links to the same account that the purchases were made with, you should allow us to re-download OUR content and update OUR apps.
It appears that the purchaser of the app is the owner of the app, but only so long as you keep the same ID. Change that, and Apple take your apps & music back off you and laugh all the way to the bank. In future I'm using Android and Amazon - they don't treat you like this.

Aug 29, 2014 11:29 AM in response to snkcookby gail from maine,Whatever your issue is, it is not what you are describing. If you change your Apple ID by going to Manage your Apple ID and by using the EDIT key to put in a new email address for that Apple ID, and if you verify that new email address, then all purchases are available under that new Apple ID.
Many people create a new Apple ID instead of editing the existing one. Which is why we say that all apps are tied to the Apple ID that they are purchased under. Probably what we should say is that they are tied to the Apple Account that they were purchased with. As long as it is the same account with just a new updated email address for the Apple ID, the purchases are still tied to that account.
Did you go to Settings>General>iTunes & App Store and sign out the old ID and sign in the new one? Did you delete the iCloud account with the old ID? Did you sign out of Messages and FaceTime and sign back in with the new ID? Did you try resetting the device?
Cheers,
GB

Sep 3, 2014 6:10 PM in response to Dah•veedby Robin.you,if you put the final helpful answer as the last post instead of explaining what you did, that would be more helpful. Anyway, have to keep two accounts is not a reasonable design. it should be bind with the machine instead of an user account.

Sep 3, 2014 6:20 PM in response to Robin.youby Dah•veed,The Mac App Store and the iTunes Store work identically and the two store function as those who owned the original content that was sold by the iTunes Store, which came years before the Mac App Store, music and videos (music, movies and television programs) required Apple to sell their product, that the user licensing for the content is to the person, not an inanimate object, the Mac or iOS device. That's why the person's Apple ID is encoded in the copy that they download. Which is why the Apple ID that bought the content is the only one that can redownload or update the content, not whomever may be using the device.

Sep 3, 2014 6:26 PM in response to Dah•veedby Robin.you,I see, thanks,
but I don't think I bought iphoto and imovie, it came with the original new machine when I bought it. but when i changed to use another account. I have to keep both of them. but I have several apple products.
Will refuse to buy any apple product again. It looks not a reasonable design to me. So, never an apple product again, including the coming iphone 6 which i like most. But the software is unacceptable!

Sep 13, 2014 3:41 PM in response to brilligby gailfromboston,This is the most helpful answer to the question about the iphoto and the imovie update. Follow up question, did you lose all of your iphoto pics when you trashed the app?

Sep 13, 2014 3:48 PM in response to gailfrombostonby Dah•veed,The photos are not stored in the app bundle. Your photos are in the iPhoto library located in Users/~/Pictures
