Sep 15, 2014 2:58 PM in response to coffeetime1by ssschmidt,I believe that the unibody MacBooks are not user serviceable (battery replacement). Installing the battery on your own would void your warranty.

•How to identify MacBook models
If the product happens to be a MacBook Pro, then the part numbers differ.
See how a determined DIY user with some skills & abilities could dissect & replace battery:

Example of what new replacement battery looks like, for your Mac; w/ part number:

An Apple Store or Authorized Apple service provider could replace the battery
for the cost of the part, and a fee for the tech time. This may vary by location.
Hopefully this helps. The part is not considered 'user replaceable' but it is possible.
Good luck & happy computing!

Sep 15, 2014 6:38 PM in response to K Shafferby K Shaffer,Given the two different models in first posts, the Aluminum Pro and a non-Pro model,
the specs are different also. And so will the parts. The Unibody models generally do not
have external batteries; the iFixit.com site shows all the portable Mac computers and also
has info on the battery exchange processes, and part numbers. Though does not have
several of the parts in their own catalog. Maybe see OWC macsales, for built-in batteries.

•How to identify MacBook models
The MacBook Pro mid-2010 also uses the 7.1 identifier, as /Pro; not MB7.1.
Nearly all of these are metal case. The non-Pro MacBook 13-inch 2008 is not
plastic, so it is confused to be a MB/Pro. Without exact identification, parts can
be mixed up too; so follows to use http://everymac.com and http://mactracker.ca
in addition to reputable Mac-centric replacement or upgrade part supplier data
when applicable; & Apple's Support database to help identify the model/identifier.

Since I was interrupted when I posted above, and hadn't read the conflicting
info in your earlier post(s), I happened across that just now. The part number for
the battery could be found in the iFixit page for the specific model you have, but
they did not list a replacement part in their catalog for several built-in models.
The Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service provider (see links in earlier post)
is the best place to have an expert or Specialist replace the correct battery. By
serial number, and other identifiers, they should be able to quote numbers or
if they have one in stock. Figure $129 plus a little to swap them. Worth it.

Sep 16, 2014 9:51 AM in response to K Shafferby coffeetime1,Thank you so much for your help, been having a look.Does the battery have to state the model number, which mine is A1278
-
Sep 16, 2014 12:27 PM in response to coffeetime1by K Shaffer,The number you show is not for the model you say you have. If you are saying that correctly...
You have to reference the computer by its correct identification to get the correct part number reference.
IF you have an Aluminum unibody 2010 13-inch MacBook PRO, the part number has to match.
The computer model series number is not the battery model number. A1322 battery would fit
the computer.
See how these battery numbers can match the hosting computer:
http://www.battery-center.net/apple-laptop-battery.html
If your computer matched the identifiers toward the bottom of this page, then this product will work:
OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/BAP13MBU65V
There, they say the part number matches Apple A1322 battery model number (Apple Part 661-5557 equiv)
OWC: 1-800-275-4576 --their web site also offers 24/7 Live Chat plus international phone number.
From this source, the part appears to have a better quality part & longer warranty than iFixit.
iFixit.com offers info and a fixit guide, for parts and service compatibility; based on numbers
and correct identification of product. See their page on battery spec & what it fits... (same)
IF the computer is a Pro model Aluminum MacBook unibody 2010 13-inch, this confirms OWC:
Product code: IF163-019-1
Apple Part #: 661-5557
- For MacBook Pro 13" Unibody A1278
- Replacement laptop battery rated 5500-5800 mAh and 63.5 Wh.
- Apple's Model # A1322.
- Fits in 13" Macbook Pro Unibodies made from Mid 2009 through 2012.
So as the previous posts links would've confirmed, the Battery Model number for a specific
computer model identified series build, correctly identified, can match up on paper; if you
have the correct computer serial number, and other details to cross-reference & 2x check
However, in your post(s) the name MacBook (discontinued 2010) does not say MacBook Pro.
And with both used as product identification, without two computers needing a battery, only
one can be correct. Even if one could make another incorrect part fit in the case & work...
With the correct part and OWC video or iFixit repair guide, you could do this.
Be sure the new battery gets a full charge before using the computer; a day
or maybe 16 hours. Then consider it may need to have an SMC or system
management controller reset to get the battery to sync with the MB/Pro.
1-800-MY-APPLE can also help you locate a part by computer serial number.
Good luck & happy computing!
