Q: Can't add first track of albums

I have a very odd problem that I can't seem to figure out.  My setup is a Mac Mini running the latest version of Mavericks with an external 3TB "iTunes" drive where I store all of my music. As of yesterday, I can't seem to add the first track of albums to my library. When I drag the folder to iTunes, it gives me the following message:

Attempting to copy to the disk "iTunes" failed.  The disk could not be read from or written to.

Now the odd thing about this is the fact that the folder I'm trying to drag into the library is on this same "iTunes" disk.  I can copy, delete, move, etc. folders files with no problems.  I discovered by trial and error that I can drag tracks 2 on into the library and they add perfectly fine.  It's only when I try to add the first track where it gives me the error.  I've tried repairing the disk, quitting iTunes, and "Add to Library..." from the menu, but all result in the same issues.  I've tried this with multiple albums and it's the same across the board.  Short of rebuilding my iTunes library which I believe will wipe out all of my "Plays", "Last Played", etc. info, are there any suggestions?  BTW, I'm running the latest version of iTunes, as well, and I'm not sure if this all started after that update.  Thanks in advance for any help!
