Q: I need help with remnants of mackeeper

I am having pop ups and ads all over the place.... I removed mackeeper when it was making my fan run non stop, and emptied the trash. There are obviously still hidden files from it. I can barely go to a website without getting three extra websites opening from this. Any help and step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated. This is a second hand macbook pro and I am definitely not an expert. Thank you!

MacBook Pro, iOS 7.1

The problem you describe may be unrelated MacKeeper. If you installed MacKeeper in the past but uninstalled it according to its instructions, it will no longer affect your Mac.

You may have inadvertently installed adware. Eradicating it is simple. You don't need to download anything to fix it. For an explanation or how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for one possible solution read How to install adware.

Thank you! One of the pop ups was actually for Mackeeper. I went through from your link to another and uninstalled two safari add ons masked to look like Amazon and eBay extensions and I haven't had a pop up in the few minutes since, already a big difference and I will update if anything changes! Much appreciated!
