Sep 20, 2014 8:14 AM in response to untidyscrawlsby Belamba,Since updating to iOS 8 i cannot connect my 5s or iPad air to the wifi (BT Infinity). Spent two days on phone to Apple and Bt and still can't get a connection (even if standing next to hub).
It's doing my head in...I run a business and this is hopeless!
iPhone connected to a friends wifi ok, just won't work with mine.
Any suggestions please? don't know the Ghz of my hub. I've restored iPad, reset, rebooted wifi, turned wifi button on and off, had BT reset at the exchange and still nothing.
Help please :-(

Sep 20, 2014 8:29 AM in response to Belambaby NikCh,My BT home hub 5 (and possibly 4?) using BT Infinity has the facility to have different SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. My iPad Air doesn't work (since upgrading to iOS 8) linked via 5GHz, but it will if I connect via 2.4GHz. I have set the router so that I can link to either, that they don't sync and they are both on automatic channel selection.

Sep 20, 2014 10:35 AM in response to NikChby kpmac1,Add me to the list of people with problems at 5 ghz. I've updated to IOS8 on an iPad mini retina and an iPhone 5s. Both of them worked perfectly at 5ghz prior to the update and both will only allow a couple of Minutes of network traffic before I have to toggle wifi to get traffic back after the update. Switching to 2.4 ghz allows perfect connectivity. Glad there's a workaround but given that there were reports of this a couple of months ago, it makes me think Apple didn't take those reports seriously.
im using a Netgear R6200v2 with the DD-WRT open source firmware.

Sep 20, 2014 1:32 PM in response to untidyscrawlsby EYing,Same problem here with my 5s, but my retina iPad mini is connecting just fine. So I thought it's worth a try to reset network settings on the 5s.
I did a General->Reset->Reset Network Settings, then adding the 5GHz network back (by manually typing in the network name) and that seems to have done the trick!

I did some experiment.Turn on airplane mode and connect wifi.
After all, my Internet connection is extremely well.
I guess iOS 8 has some serious issue with cellular and wifi.
When I turned off airplane mode and connect wifi, the Internet connection is very bad.
Can anyone try above and post any result?
Too bad, I did not back up iOS 7 on my computer so I can't go back to previous iOS.
I have iPad 2 with iOS 7 and it works perfectly. Just iPhone 5s that upgraded to iOS 8.

Was connected to my 5ghz band but no traffic was going through. Switching back to 2.4 ghz worked fine. I'm using a Netgear Nighthawk. Just got the iPhone 6 and the same thing is happening. My iPad was working fine with iOS 7. Definitely seems to be an OS issue.

So far, I don't seem to have had the same problem with my iPhone 6.

Sep 21, 2014 1:06 AM in response to NikChby Roger Wilmut1,★HelpfulIn the USA and Europe 5GHz channels 52 to 140 require DFS (dynamic frequency selection ). If these have worked in the past then I would have expected the iPhone to handle this. I can only speak from my experience with an Android tablet, which was persistently refusing to recognize my 5GHz network (separate SSID from the 2.5 GHz one). When I discovered the DFS issue I set the network to a fixed channel outside that range, and it worked perfectly well. (I found information that the model in question - Nexus 7 - doesn't handle DFS.)
I don't know whether this will make any difference with the iPhone but you could try specifying one of the channels listed here which does not have DFS specified, such as 36, 40, 44 or 48.

also turn wifi off on iPhone for 30 seconds
then try again is it a Netgear router mine is.
this worked for me.

However, I manually set the channel to 44 and it seems to have done the trick - it all works (including other devices) - so far!
Thanks for aiming me in what seems to be the right direction.

Here is my current solution:
1. login to your ASUS RTN66U;
2. go to 5G network general setting page. Change the "password period" to "86400" (i.e. one day);
3. go to professional setting under 5G network, change "Preamble type" to "auto"
4. go to LAN setting --> DHCP server --> lease period, change lease period to "86400"

It's been 4 days now, and I'm going crazy with no wifi. Even changed the hub but still can't connect.
