How to get around the stupid 100 mb download limit on ipad without wifi

Hi. I have a brand new IPad Air cellular + wifi with 128 gb. I also have an unlimited 3G connectivity. But the stupid 100 mb limit has made my life very difficult. Please suggest some ways to download files larger than 100mb without wifi. I am located in India and I have confirmed from my telecom service provider that there is no maximum limit on downloads.

iPad Air Wi-Fi, Cellular, iOS 7.1

Any new ways around this? Apple really should make a toggle switch. I can spend 8 hrs a day watching Netflix on LTE but when I go to update an app I can’t without WiFi. Guess I need to go to McDonald’s and use there WiFi again like I did for the last IPhone update. Or maybe I can try that tethering trick with my tablet that someone mentioned? It’s mostly just a pain in the butt having to work around the WiFi limitation when just about every one has cheap unlimited data these days.

Hi,

You have to use wifi for certain apps, if you are downloading apps within the 100mb limit it is ok but you will need wifi for the ones above the wifi limit , this is because of the amount of data the app has to download. I suggest you ask your provider again for advice as this is a problem with the 3g more than the iPad.

thanks,

Mathias🙂

I had no clue of this what so ever before I purchased wifi-cellular air a few days back.

The funny part is that I also hooked up with 4G for 2 years contract thinking that I could actually go out and still do and download stuff with that 100M 4G..

I'm really missing the point with that limitation, why can't they just add an option to do it anyways..

It really ****** me off when my broadband is actually slower than the cellular I took for the device and the only way to utilize it is with Facebook, news and YouTube..

Apple is an extremely good example of a capitalist company, which, according to most, is the opposite of communism and generally considered not incompatible with democracy (though there are those who would disagree with that latter assumption). Before you start tossing around economic and socio-political terms, try finding out what they mean. You'll sound smarter.

Believe me ... this is not a stupid limit, as there would be thosands of complaints from users blowing through their data limits on cellular if Apple didn't do this. That limit is there for a very good reason and there for the vast and overwhelming majority of users.

Apple works to help the vast majority of its users and to help them in many different ways. In this example, Apple is helping users not blow through their cellular data caps and find out that they have to pay more to get usage out of their device. This is a benefit to the vast and overwhelming majority of Apple's customers.

Apple is also helping the carriers by keeping down network loads.
