Q: do not disturb doesn't work iphone 4GS

I'm really fed up with this whole feature.  I just updated operating system to IOS 8 and STILL it lets calls through!  It has been hit and miss with this darned app forever, even on my 3GS before this one.  What on earth can I do to get this to work properly?

Thanks,

Jovin

See this support document. Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If calls are getting through, then they are either in your favorites, or you have a setting incorrect. Mine has worked fine. If you do not have it set for Always, if you have the phone unlocked, calls will get through, when set on Only while iPhone is locked. So depending on how you are testing it, or if the people are in your favorites, or if you have repeated calls turned on and they are trying to call you multiple times. Double-check all of your settings.

Sorry I couldn't respond sooner. I'm having a horrible time with my computer.

Even when I had it on "no one" calls came through today, and repeated calls I NEVER have on.  I will try to go over what  you've said above and figure out what I'm doing wrong.  I"m not sure what you mean by having my phone "unlocked."  I have it set all the time to lock after 5 minutes. Is that what you are referring to?  Also, I'm not familiar with "Always" as you mentioned.  I'll have to go through this again. I've only had this phone since August, so I will try to figure out what this is that is not allowing me to block calls.

    Thanks so much,

    Jovin.

Okay, I'm replying to my own message, I think, but now I am seeing that you must mean that I should have checked under "Silence"  ...."Always"...I have the other option checked off..."only while Iphone is locked."  But shouldn't that be alright, since my phone locks after 5 minutes?  I'm not sure I understand the problem.

    Thanks again,

    Jovin

In the setting that you have, DND would only come into play when the phone is locked, so if it was within the 5 minutes you say before the device locks, then they would come through. If you have Always checked, then once DND is turned on, nothing should come through, unless you checked an exception, such as favorites. If DND is on, you should see a small crescent moon icon near the battery icon.

Thank you, Chris, for your replies. For some reason I can't reply on my computer, so I'm in my iphone. I have checked the settings and even put it on "Always" for the lock. I have had nothing in my favourites. I have repeated calls off, and of course I DO know about the crescent moon icon. That is always there whenever my calls still come through.  Anyway, after setting the phone to Always last night I had my daughter try to call through AND Imessage me.  The call did not come through but the imessage did along with the audible alert sound

The only other thing is you might want to either power the phone off/on, or do a reset, which will not affect your data. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. The last steps in user troubleshooting are a restore from backup or restore as new.
