Q: Photos out of order in Events after iOS 8 update

I have an iPhone 5s that I just updated to iOS 8.  I sync photos from my Aperture library on my Mac, which show up as a "Events From My Mac" album under "Albums" in the Photos app on my iPhone.  In iOS 7 and before, events synced from Aperture would show in reverse chronological order, which made sense.  Upon updating to iOS 8, all the events are in a random order.  I have events from 2008, followed by 2010, then 2009, then 2012, then 2008, etc...

Has anyone else run into this issue?  I know that I'll probably have to resort to telling iTunes to stop syncing photos, delete the "iPod Photo Sync" folder from inside the Aperture package, then re-sync all the photos, but before I go through all that trouble, I was hoping someone might have an easy fix.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Can not open the photos in PhotoSync.  Great for order but can not see the photo.  Need a better solution.

Yes.  Me too.  Disaster.  On previous iOS events with numbers were in numerical order on MAC and alphabetical order on phone (1, 10 100 before 2, 20 200 etc.   AAAGH

Same here. I have hundreds of events. All the events are at random order.

Apple, please fix this problem soon.

There is something very interesting about order of Photo events. I try to change the background of the iPhone screen. Going to "Settings / Wallpapers / Choose a New Wallpaper" I can see the standard pictures of the system, and all the events stored in Photo, in the folder "Events from my Mac". These events are all listed correctly, according to the setting choosed in iPhoto on the Mac (for me sorted by date, descending). So, Wallpapers shows events in the right order, Photo everytime in a different random order.

    Why?

I have the same issue on my iPad Air and iPhone 5s. I have reported it to Apple and am hoping for a quick solution. it's nice that there's a work-around with another (paid) app, but we shouldn't have to use that. Also, using iCloud for photo syncing is unacceptable for me. I have never wanted to do so and with the amount of pictures I have, I'd have to upgrade to a larger iCloud plan, which I am completely unwilling to pay for. I can hardly believe that this has gone unnoticed with all the developers, internal testers and reviewers. Obviously, we are the only ones that find this matter urgent, or Apple simply doesn't care.

That is very interesting!  So iOS 8 can see the photos in the correct order; it's the Photos app that is not seeing them in the correct order.  I guess the good news is that this means it should be a very simple fix for Apple to implement.  I guess let's keep our fingers crossed that whenever they release iOS 8.0.1 (hopefully in the next week or two) that this fix is included!

Let me sing the "Me too" song here. I have the same problem with both my iphone 5 and my iPad Mini retina. And as somebody said, the order on both is different, and totally random, whereas on my iphone 4, still with iOS 7, the order from my aperture library is respected.

Apple, please acknowledge this problem, and fix this in the next release !

or, simply bring back iPhoto as an IOS8 app - I paid for it, and liked the very Apple way it reflected IiPhoto on OSX. Have looked at many, many 3rd party apps on Apple Store - not one of them is even close to being as good as iPhoto for IOS.

I have noted the same issue. One of the respondents says it looks like Apple is pushing all of us to Collections and Moments, and away from Events, and I think that is true.

Happily, all of my Events on my iMac remained in proper order when I upgraded my remote devices to iOS 8. When I take new photos, I have them automatically download from Photo Stream to Events, then I select the ones I wish to keep, and label them properly. Hopefuly, the new photos app in OSX Yosemite (due out in 2015) will not interferer with that.

I also note that the automatic download from Photo Stream to Events is a bit random, and I often have to search the last several Events to find the new photos, and then create a new Event for them.

I've recently unboxed my iPhone 6, but already have got the problem with syncing photos. After the second try of syncing all my 72.000 pics in one go and hanging several hours, I do it now step by step. Every sync another album. Now I'm already got to the year 2006 (starting in the past).

But the sort of the faces is terrible. I have about 1000 different faces and they are all scrambled.

With the iPhone 6 there is no way to get down to IOS7, so I hope apple will bring a solution.

    regards Harry

iOS 8.0.1 is out; has anyone installed it to see if it fixes the photo events issue?  I'm holding off on installing it since there have been reports of it messing up cellular service and Touch ID for some people.

Got it, but photos are still randomised.
