Q: *PLEASE HELP* Spinning beachball keeps coming up…

Hey guys, even though I've got 500mb of RAM available for OSX to use the spinning beachball comes up every now and again and when it appears I’m unable to do anything other than move my mouse. Im running latest version of OSX Mavericks.

Thanks!

Alright, I'm looking at this now Using Apple Hardware Test

One idea I had was installing the new OSX Yosemite. What apps won't work with Yosemite? How can I check which apps will work with Yosemite?

Installing a piece of Beta software on a Mac that already has problems is a very bad idea.

If you are willing to spend $4.99 to confirm the diagnosis, get SMART Reporter from the App Store. (I don't have it, btw)

From the first report you posted, it looks like you only have 70GB free on your startup disk. Depending on what you are doing  with your Mini, this may not be enough. Some apps need quite a bit of free disk space for their caches in order to run well.

Alright, I'll look into that app, but I'll run the Apple diagnostics first.

Would it help if I posted another console report? What else can I try?

    Thanks!

Would installing Yosemite be a good idea as I assume installing Yosemite would be like re-installing Mavericks while keeping my preferences and installed apps?

    Thanks for any help!

I wish Linc Davis would come back.

    And that's OK with you?

Fix the problem, don't Upgrade it.

No, the spinning beachball is really annoying because when it occurs my Mac is completely unresponsive.

I thought if I installed Yosemite it'd fix the issue, but you say it's a bad idea?

Once more, you fix issues by fixing them. Not by installing yet another (and this time a test version) of OSX.

You were earlier asked whether the machine runs in safe mode without the beachballs. So far I don't see your answer.

Sorry. Yes, I saw the beachballs even in safe mode.

I really don't want to re-install a clean install of Mavericks because I'd need to re-install all my apps and re-setup my OSX preferences as it'd just take so much time.

Then you'll need to learn to live with this. You just limited the repair options a lot.

    Good luck

What do you mean I limited the repair options? You've got me worried now!

Can't I paste another slab of text from Console or use etrecheck again?

Does anyone know how I can ask Linc Davis to look at this thread?

By refusing the option of a reinstallation you have removed one (good) set of tools from the kit.

    Good luck.
