Sep 21, 2014 6:06 PM in response to dannylongshanksby WiseJD,If you connect to a computer with iTunes and do a Sync I believe you will regain quite a bit of memory. The nearly 1 GB is just the iOS 8 and then your Apps and everything else take up more. However there is typically a large "Other" that can shrink as you sync the iPhone.

Sep 21, 2014 7:28 PM in response to Kappyby dannylongshanks,It makes sense, I just thought with this as the example "For example: The way decimal and binary numeral systems measure a GB is what causes a 32 GB storage device to appear as approximately 28 GB when detailed by its operating system, even though the storage device still has 32 billion bytes (not 28 billion bytes), as reported." that it would happen proportionately. If you effectively lose 4 GB on a 32 GB phone, shouldn't you only lose 2 GB on a 16? I started this as a new phone, have installed some apps, and I'm down to 2 GB free with iTunes showing 6 GB of other? Ridiculous.

Sep 21, 2014 10:14 PM in response to dannylongshanksby Kappy,The loss is not linear, exactly. It is approximately 7% on larger devices. But higher as the space becomes smaller. The difference is that of a Base 10 number compared to its Base 2 equivalent. There's nothing "ridiculous." It's simply a method of counting. What's ridiculous is making such a big deal out of it and trying to place a blame on someone.

Sep 22, 2014 2:33 AM in response to Kappyby dannylongshanks,Maybe I should have said "unfortunate" instead of "ridiculous", but where exactly am I trying to blame someone? Your assumption is ridiculous. Starting a new device with a 25% loss is disappointing (not even counting the iOS and default apps).

Sep 29, 2014 1:25 PM in response to dannylongshanksby mg428,Would you mind clarifying how much memory left in your phone?
Your first post (I guess 12.2 GB capacity before installing any app) and last post (starting with a device with a 25% loss) is consistent.
However in on of your previous posts you say "I started this as a new phone, have installed some apps, and I'm down to 2 GB free with iTunes showing 6 GB of other".
So 2 questions:
1) I really wonder what apps you installed that took you down to 2GB or 6GB? (IMHO you must have done either of these to drop your memory that much: transferring photos and/or videos to the stock photo app, or syncing songs to the stock music app, or installing many games). Please kindly elaborate on how approx. many photos/videos/games you transfered/synced/installed to drop your memory such severly.
2) After the transfer/sync/installation, did your memory drop to 2GB or 6GB? Please elaborate on the disparity.
Thanks!
