I'm currently using a Net gear router w my cable modem

    You can't. The AEX can only be used with a non-Apple router in Bridge Mode which will not extend the router's range. If you can connect the AEX to an Ethernet LAN port on the router using an Ethernet cable, then you could configure the AEX to Create its own network.
