Q: How to restore my recovery partition on Lion 10.7.5
Hi all,
last week i installed the latest security update for Lion and ended up with a broken system.
I run into the dock magnification lag as well as some other problems.
I lost my printer (Lion told me that it was offline) and the web interface of my FritzBox was unreachable (but i still had an uplink).
So decided to boot into recovery mode to restore my system from my Time Machine backup.
I selected the wrong backup set and needed to repeat the whole procedure.
At the second try my Mac booted from the network - but the hidden recovery partition was gone.
Output from diskutil:
sh-3.2# diskutil list
/dev/disk0
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *500.1 GB disk0
1: EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 499.2 GB disk0s2
/dev/disk1
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *2.0 GB disk1
1: Microsoft Basic Data MYSD2GB 2.0 GB disk1s1
/dev/disk2
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *1.0 TB disk2
1: EFI 209.7 MB disk2s1
2: Apple_HFS Backup 500.1 GB disk2s2
3: Apple_HFS Stuff 499.6 GB disk2s3
sh-3.2#
I figured out that the recovery worked as designed - i could recover my system.
But would like to have my hidden recovery partition back.
I found this: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/19145/how-can-i-create-or-recreate-a-li on-recovery-partition
But i'm a bit unsure if this is the right way because this are some operations that really one don't like do very much... :-(
And i also couldn't reinstall my printer (Canon pixma ip5200) as USB printer.
I attached it to my router via USB and installed a software RIP (PrintFab2) and with the driver that comes with it my printer works again.
But N.B.: before the recovery (and many updates) it worked via USB with the driver that came with Lion.
That you very much in advance for any hint.
Best regards, Peter
