Q: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load  very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

Exactly same problem . If they think it will make me buy a newer Ipad then they need to think again

Well.....I have to laugh, because you know you will.....eventually!

i have been patiently waiting for a larger iPad to come out...Hope it happens....

i Can't imagine you ditching and going elsewhere after you have had the best.

hope you rethink this out....before you waste your bucks on something that just won't compare in the end.

the best investment is in yourself....never forget....you are worth it...if it is a tool that allows you to work better.

I Have to laugh because you still believe Apple is the best.  Their phones are lagging behind Android technologies, and their tablets are joining the Mac computer category: overpriced with little if any additional benefit, closed and unresponsive iOS, etc.

this iOS 8 is little more than planned obsolescence for iPad 2, and it sound like the same for iPhone 5.

Good to know!  i am open to something better!  I have not heard that about the phone....my issue is with a windows based operations system...

thats ts all I ever had used for many years...after getting so frustrated and I switched only a few years back...I actually have time to work and enjoy my work, rather than struggle through all the issues with windows. I don't care WHO makes what...I just want some thing that works and works without hangups....

so I do appreciate you educating me...I will check out your recommendations!   THANKS!!!!

Yes, I have found the same thing after upgrading my iPad 2 to iOS 8:  sluggish response with jerky app switches, etc.

worth waiting on...now that so many are experiencing the issue....I imagine they will be looking at this seriously.

i am new to apple, not a die hard, I just got my fill of windows based products and was so surprised about the support and the products,

i find it hard to go back to what seems so cumbursome, this was so refreshing and clean...it does not compare.

but I just wonder if the new system is too much for the older iPads????

i have done the "hard startup", a few times....cannot swear by it, but it seems a bit better after doing that a few days in a row.

try it and see what results you get....let me know...thanks.

My 16 Gb wi-fi only iPad 2 is also very slow under iOS8. I deleted a number of apps so that I have 2.3 Gb free but it didn't make much difference. I may try to revert to iOS7 if Apple isn't able to fix this. I certainly won't recommend that anyone else "upgrade" to iOS8. Disappointing, to say the least

I had to delete apps as well, but it is good I came to the conclusion...who needs all that stuff anyway if this system works seamlessly between the devices....

I will tell you after doing the hard startup or hard shut down 3 X on 3 different days...it does seem to be running better ......

I think I will do a hard shut down tonight...maybe it is just cleaning out the "cobwebs" a few times to get it going again...sort of like an oil change.

It did not completely take away the little jerks, but it made enough difference for me that I can now live with it....

Even though you can tell, it is taxing this iPad....certainly not perfect like with the last system.

I still will give Apple the time to "fix" this, I can see this is a common issue or will become more of one.

Deleting apps and hard restart did little to nothing.  Returning to 7.1.2 did the trick, and not re-installing all the apps made it even better.

if Apple is halting iOS 8 due to all the problems, they should provide a simple roll-back too.

You know, I had to switch computers and was in the process of moving things over from the old one, so I miss the first messages for iOS 8, and I am glad.  I remember updating my iPad 2 to iOS 7 and all of my notes and everything I had saved on apps that I create in device was gone, just gone.  I did not know about the feature where notes are stored in gmail so I got lucky on all my notes, but my app data ticked me off.  (I'm talking apps like schedulers, calendars and things like those.)   What ever James Bond's Q type of back-up system that does not back-up what I need backed up (like in-device app data - because that would only be useful) is the one feature I don't like about my Apple devices.  Oh cool it can bring back my apps, but good luck with all the important stuff you've saved that makes the apps useful - just start again, no big diff.  Well to H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks (this is the only message board where I feel like Ned Flanders) with you Apple, it made a "diff" to me.

I still am not going from an Apple Device, I know which of my Computer Overlords are in charge up in this piece.  But I'm going to say "NO" to the ios 8 update until I read they've straightened out these problems - when they get around to it.  (I know Apple is busy getting read for the iPhone 6.5 launch next spring.)

Smart decision...I did not have issues with 7, nor with any other update before....smart to wait a bit before jumping in.

i saw something come up tonight in regards to "issues". I am holding my breath to see if it will relate here....who knows?

let me know if you hear anything....thanks for sharing...especially given the important data loss you had...not good to say the least.

I have an iPad 2 64Gb GSM and updated to iOS and experienced many of the same issues. Very sluggish and odd glitches too many to list but many users have covered them.

I FOUND one thing to be very helpful: I reinstalled iOS 8 by doing a clean install this time. It ain't perfect but it does not feel as sluggish or pokey as before. And no mysterious crashes. It isn't quite as fast as iOS 7. whatever but it is now tolerable. Maybe there is hope. Be sure you back up your data.

Did Apple in fact not test the Ipad 2 at all for the ios 8.0 update. It was obvious slow from the start, so how could testers miss this? Conclusion is a to render the Ipad 2 useless or some one ....up big time. Which I had not updated at all.

    You have two options:

First, speed up iOS 8: end multiple tasks; clear junk file; delete apps; delete text messages, photos, videos, etc.

Second, downgrade your iPad from iOS 8 to iOS 7, BUT do it quickly. A few days later, the way is not available any longer:

    1. Download iOS 7.1.2 firmware for your iPad 2. (just google it)

    2. Make sure you have install the latest version of iTunes.

    3. Connect your iPad to computer via a USB cable.

    4. After detected, your iPad will be shown in the left column. Click your iPad to show the control panel.

Note: Make sure you have backups of your iPad. if not, backup it now.

    5. Under Summary tab, hold on Shift key in Windows(Option key in Mac ) click Restore iPhone....

    6. In the pop-up window, find the firmware on your computer and click Open.

    7. Then, iTunes will downgrade your iPad to iOS 7.1.2.

I had same issue.  Updated my wife's iPad and now she states it is very slow and will not use it.  She has very few apps. so not sure that is an issue.  She also has 32GB model so that is not the issue.  Last time I update when a new OS is first released.
