Q: Find my Friends doesn't work after IOS 7 update

We use find my friends for our entire family to monitor kids locations, etc.  Since updating to IOS 7, one of the phones only shows it's location sporadically - otherwise says location not available.

Have verified location services are turned on, nothing is blocked, etc.

This phone was updated to IOS 7 over wifi (vs. through iTunes) - one other phone had some minor (unrelated) issues after updating over wifi that were resolved by doing a factory reset & updating from iTunes - wondering if that could be cause of the issue here as well.  Anyone else encountering issues with FMF?

iPhone 5, iOS 7

I'm a teenager and have find my friends on my phone so my parents can keep track of me. Two days ago I was at school, then at an extra credit video that started 9 minutes after school ended, started at 2:20 and got done at 4:00 p.m. AFter, I got a call from my mom asking me where I had gone after school? I was really confused because I had gone to the video right after school, and I could get my history teacher to even vouch that I was there. Her argument was that my GPS dot on find my friends had gone done the street to another house(which she drove to and took a picture of). This issue has caused great strife in the family as I cannot comprehend why my GPS would showw me to be somewhere else. My mom doesn't want/care about a vouch from the history teacher, she just wants to know where I "went". If someone could help me understand as to what happened with the app, that would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

I found that under Settings>General>Date & Time, if "Set Automatically" is not active, then FMF won't work if the app is not active or running in the background.  However, turning "Set Automatically" to on (green), it works whether the app is active or running in the background or forced to quit.  Verified it a couple of times..
