Sep 18, 2014 8:21 AM in response to Lalamperby LukeRoberts,Same here,
reference: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2014/09/17/best-ios-8-new-features/#icloudphotolibr ary
I have an iphone 5S 64GB. I also have 64GB ipad 2. I shoot all photo's with my iphone and have been doing this for many years. Once a year I offload photo's to my computer (and back them up also). Usually I have about 15GB of photos on my iphone (+30GB of music, apss, etc and my iphone is 95% full). Until iOS8 I used photostream to get the last 1000 images on my ipad too.
I assumed, that with iOS8 and the iCloud Photo Library, photo's would get automagically offloaded to the icloud (to free up space on my iphone and/or ipad) and that I would allways be able to access them by clicking on thumnails in the photo app. For this reason I upgraded to 200GB of iCloud space, hoping I could also upload the offloaded photo's from my computer 'back' into the icloud photo library.
Alas... I cannot find any way to activate the iCloud Photo Library functionality. I simply can't see the options in the settings.I've restarted both the iphone and ipad.. no luck. Anybody?

It seems apple stripped it out just before releasing iOS8 to the public.
I hope the intorduce it soon. It was one of the killer features for me!

Sep 18, 2014 10:48 AM in response to LukeRobertsby John_Berkowitz,Okay, so here's my question: When iCloud Photo Library goes back on line will I get back the 900+ missing photos that were in my photo stream prior to updating to OS 8? I'm now reading that photo stream only keeps photos for 30 days (iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ), however until yesterday that was never the case; I had photos going back a year or more. It was always up to 1000 photos, overwriting the oldest with the newest and Apple not charging us for this. Now there is supposed to be an option to either continue with that (but now for only 30 days?) or pay for Photo Library storage space.
Also, while photos my wife has taken in the last week have appeared in my photo library on my phone, after September 8 no photos either of us have taken have been loaded into the photo stream library on my PC. I'm making the (hopeful) assumption that these are all connected to the sudden elimination of the iCloud Photo Library.
