Q: Photos Locked

Hi, I have a MacBook Air with OS X 10.9.5. I have began to use Time Machine to do the backup of the HD and all my photos appear as locked and I cannot unlock them. I want to delete some photos and cannot do that. I read that in the preference panel of the Time Machine I check unlock box and the problem was solved, but I do not have an unlock box to check, even more I do not know if the problem is generated by using Time Machine.

Can you help me please?

Hi,

Thank you for contact me. Please find below the screenshot of the Time Machine panel. You can see that there is not a box I can check to unlock the pictures. At the end of this message you can find a screenshot of a picture where says that is locked. I want to unlock the pictures, but I do not know how to do that.

I can't see the screenshots because the forum software, as usual, isn't working properly. So I'll have to guess what you're doing. My guess is that you're trying to open a copy of the iPhoto library inside a Time Machine snapshot. That won't work. You have to restore the library first, then open it. If my guess is wrong, please try to clarify.

Hi Linc...I use Time Machine to backup my Mac...and it seems that Time Machine lock the pictures...so what happen is that all my photos are locked and I cannot unlock them. If I want to copy a photo the OS give me a message saying that the picture is locked and I don't have privileges to move it. I want to unlock the pictures but I don't how to do that.

I still can't see the screenshots. Did you restore the library in Time Machine? If you didn't, you will get nowhere.

Hi Linc...I restore the backup and also I run the utilities to verify and repair the files' attributes and the problem is still there...everytime I tried to unlock a picture I receive the same message "you do not have rights to unlock the file....". Any other idea?

Select the iPhoto library (usually in the Pictures folder) in the Finder and open the Info dialog. Change the permissions as directed here.
